I was lucky to get to illustrate a bunch of Nancy Drew covers in the early 80's (Wanderer series #57-71) I did read some of the earlier ones growing up, but was mostly into the Black Stallion series( which I also ending up illustrating the first paperbacks in the early eighties) #kidlitchat
