Some reminders for Winter Salt Week:
❄️ A 12oz mug of salt spread out is enough for ~10 sidewalk squares or a 20 foot driveway.
❄️Salt is not effective at melting ice below 15Β°.
❄️It's a good idea to sweep up leftover salt to use later and keep it out of our streams!

It’s a good news/bad news week for the Environmental News Roundup: Chesapeake Bay underwater grasses hold their ground; Connecticut sees higher beverage container return rates; another state bans EPS foam; but boy do those plastics continue to wreak havoc around the globe.

Plastic Free July text from Clean Fairfax

Globally, 1 million plastic bottles are purchased every minute.

It takes 17 million barrels of oil to meet the annual U.S. demand for bottled water.

A whopping 86% of those bottles are not recycled but wind up in landfill or, worse, in the environment.

Refuse single use plastic; reach for reusables

It's #PlasticFreeJuly and if you haven't already been working to curb your appetite for single use plastic, this is the month to do it. If you don't care about the environment* then do it for your health.

*you better care about the environment, tho.

Today is #PlasticBagFreeDay ! Did you know that more than 100 billion plastic bags are used each year? Only 1-3% of those end up recycled while the rest are incinerated or landfilled. Don't add to the pile. Go plastic bag free and #ReachForReusables like produce bags, tote bags, a basket, or a box!

Has Virginia passed a bipartisan can on foam cups and take out containers? Yes!

Has Gov Youngkin worked to significantly delay this bipartisan law every single year through the budget? Also yes.

Have you told your legislators to support a #FoamFreeVA? #valeg
