Billionaires are also sponging off everyone else: exploited staff; public infrastructure (and the education and work required to create and maintain it); environmental costs. The wealthier you are the MORE of a sponge you are.

The case for a 100% tax bracket for billionaires I was looking through my photos, stumbled upon this image, and realized that I had to get out a seasonal newsletter today with a wish for 2025. Caption....

Yep. Their billions are also not their earnings: underpaid staff, suppliers & contractors; billionaires failed to pay for the public services and utilities that make their companies possible, and their billions cost the environment - all unpaid for by the super-rich.

To restore democracy and create a fairer, safer, greener world, we need massive taxes on the ultra-rich. As in the 1940s. People get confused about this. The main purpose of such taxes is *not* to raise revenue. The point is to stop the few dominating the many. It's an essential democratic measure.

Oh wonderful; thanks for telling me! Asa is such a gem. His latest book, Cartographies of Exclusion, is terrific.

Also, many, many museums and research libraries have digitized historic collections and have free images available for download for many (even all) purposes.

Don't wreck the planet and participate in training surveillance capitalism systems. There's no excuse.

I get almost as many comments about how ugly or fat I am on my workout posts as I did on my posts before I started lifting. Iโ€™m not asking for sympathy. I just want to remind Black women that the point isnโ€™t if we are pretty or skinny or not. The point is they want us to not exist.๐Ÿ™„

Fascists only need to win one election to destroy democracy, whereas democrats have to win every election to preserve it. Thatโ€™s why fascists cannot be allowed into politics, why a tolerant society must never tolerate fascism or it will lose its tolerance. Itโ€™s the Popper Paradox and weโ€™re living it

So first of all, the DOJ's standards are....extremely fallen, I cannot imagine this happening much earlier in time.

Second, the word "intentionally" has very specific meaning and this lawyer thirty years into practice knows what it means, and the judge is being very clear about that.

Honestly, I am absolutely disgusted by academics suggesting that AI can do the reading and writing for you. At a certain point, what you're bragging about is fraud. And in a broader sense, what you're contributing to is the erosion of knowledge and the destruction of trust in academic publishing.

The Bride! A Celebration of the Monstrous Feminine With the release of Maggie Gyllenhaal's "The Bride!" in theaters, author Surekha Davies celebrates the "monstrous feminine."

Wrote a thing about the Frankenstein spinoff movie Bride! The film is "a joyful escape and an exhortation to own oneโ€™s inner nasty woman, or monster."

"The gift of Andy and Fergie, which comes at too high a price, has been to bring the antiseptic of daylight to the culture of royal privilege."

That's not even the worst stuff in the essay. Searing. Necessary. Shocking.

Andrew sold house gifted by the queen, for 3 million pounds over asking price, to son-in-law of president Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan, "a dictator whose regime tortured opponents and whose security forces opened fire on striking oil workers on 16 December 2011, killing 15 people and injuring 100."
