I don't know how Fujimoto is going to make this anything other than a downer ending if this really is the end of the series. That would be so incredibly bleak after how hopeful Part 1's ending was.
Imagine being told by your closest friend who's been with you for years that you're better off living impoverished and abused with no hope of your living situation ever improving. That has to be utterly demoralizing.
I feel like Denji is going to need to be able to remember Pochita and at least some of the events of the previous timeline in order to improve as a person, but at the same time, Pochita's final words were so incredibly damaging that I don't know how he could go on if he remembered them.

If Pochita's powers are still active even with his heart eaten, that might mean the Devils he's eaten haven't been restored. The concept of death might still be erased.
We saw this with Death. Her bottom half didn't disappear after her top half was eaten. We also saw that her pawns were still pawns, meaning her powers were still active even with her eaten.
So theoretically, Pochita's body might still be lying around somewhere...

The Devils Pochita eats aren't actually erased. It's only the concepts they're associated with that get erased. The actual Devils are just left in Pochita's stomach until he vomits them out, and any body parts that weren't eaten just sit around.
Maybe now that instead of having to worry about the end of the world he only has to worry about the yakuza and heart disease, he can improve himself. 🙃

That's why I don't think we're supposed to entirely agree with what Pochita tells Denji. I think part of this is Pochita blaming himself for Denji's misfortune and thinking he'd be better off if they hadn't met.
I really hope the series doesn't end with Denji living alone in the shed forever.
Pochita literally told Denji that's he's incapable of being happy unless he's completely removed from regular human society and can only hope in vain for his life to improve. That's not a call for him to better himself. That's a call for him to give up.
He initially tried to turn down Fumiko but then she groped him. When he gave up being Chainsaw Man to ensure Nayuta's safety, his apartment got burned down and he was forced to transform. Yoru assaulted him after he realized that his libido was causing him to make bad decisions.
He did try to better himself at certain points but his attempts at making more mature decisions were usually thwarted somehow. I don't think it's fair to put Denji's character regression entirely on him when it seems like fate was determined to punish him for every attempt at maturing.

I think without the option of being Chainsaw Man, he would've been killed by the yakuza. We'll see what happens, though.
I really hope this isn't how Denji's story ends because having a protagonist who's a survivor of abuse be doomed to end up right back where he started only this time with no hope of things possibly getting better for him would be really depressing.

worth remembering, David Lynch directed “fix your hearts or die” specifically at transphobes. it wasn’t a generic “no mean people allowed” statement, it was said by his Twin Peaks character in defense of a trans woman he cared for and deeply respected.
