Meanwhile being a PC gamer and wanting to stay even remotely up to date to be able to run current games OK will reliably cost you 500+ a year, more now that we're in an everything shortage. Consoles are still very much the budget option.

(And if you are super mega casual there are a million free or inexpensive ways to get into the hobby nowadays)

I think if you're a super casual gamer consoles are expensive but if it's like...a large part of your life then you always have that thought in the back of your mind and you're preparing for the next one, no? You know roughly when the expense is coming and how much it is for years.

Maybe I'm too Gamer-Pilled but I don't think consoles are outrageously expensive because I know I will buy one roughly every 5-7 years well ahead of time so that 500€ is really more like a 6€/month that I just kinda passively put away for the next one in the back of my mind all along.
