To add context to how messy it can be, I'm a card-carrying member of the FPJQ BUT my outlet Policy Options does not qualify as a Qualified Canadian Journalism Organization BUT our reporter Kathryn May is a member of the Parliamentary Press Gallery in Ottawa. Try making an accreditation out of THAT.

I haven't heard too many complaints about the journalists' fedederation (FPJQ) here in Quebec, but we also haven't reached a point where their accreditiation is universally required by institutions. So I'm sure a great many journalists still don't have or need it.

The problem, of course, is you still end up with somebody somewhere deciding who gets access and what questions get answered whether you have accreditation or not. It's messy either way.

It would, but some would argue it leads to just another set of gatekeepers with interests to protect.

But the people who are against this sort of thing don't want anybody deciding who is a journalist. Once you have an FPJQ assigning accreditation, you have older journalists deciding whether newer types of journalists qualify. There is potential for sclerosis or even abuse.

I've long been a bit more on the fence. Quebec has a federation of journalists (FPJQ) that does accreditation and advocacy. It seems to basically work, though I've worked for big enough organizations in my career in Quebec that it wasn't a practical necessity, more a support for them. +

This is what the people who are vehemently opposed to official journalist accreditation (often now overlapping with opposition to government subsidies) warned us about.

Une vidรฉo trรจs bien faite. Si les spรฉcialistes des sciences sociales souhaitent rejoindre de plus en plus de citoyens (en particulier les plus jeunes), il nous faut (moi le premier) nous familiariser avec ce type de communication.

I think this is the Environment Canada equivalent of DEFCON 2.

It all political podcasters with other gigs started disclosing where their other money comes from, it would make some fascinating material.

The 25-minute Angine de Poitrine video I watched a couple weeks ago had the best comments. A sample:

There's something deeply obscene and broken about the fact that Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth are bombing elementary schools in an illegal war of aggression, and there's still a sense among the opposition that it has to be explained in terms of gas prices in order to get American voters to care.

"Was the Iranian regime bad?"

And

"now that Trump started a regime change war in a country the size of Iraq and Afghanistan combined, without getting congressional approval or doing any planning at all, should we just kind of roll with it?"

Are different questions.

But you'd hardly know it.

Oh: Also still very attached to Winnipeg, and Hellebuyck is easily one of the most prominent Winnipeggers.

If any other important Winnipegger had a high-visibilty visit to the White House, they'd get questions when they got home.

Lotta hockey fans and media shouting "move on." Hey, I live at the intersection of this stupid sport, politics and policy. Sorry!

Connor Hellebuyck has been hiding from Canadian journalists for two weeks. The strategy has probably worked. I doubt anybody who will eventually have access to him will have the time or energy to get into his views on the 51st state or other MAGA threats to Canada.

It's amazing people will claim "Canada and the USA have the same culture" and then on something as fundamental as "do you trust your fellow citizens to be good" we are further apart than any other two countries

So Philip Glass just joined TikTok. He only has like 4 posts and theyโ€™re simply him in what I assume is his living room playing the piano. First comment on one I saw was โ€œyour piano is too close to the fireplace, youโ€™ll dry it outโ€ and if thatโ€™s not the internet in a nutshell I donโ€™t know what is.

This is a profound continental divide. Canadians overwhelmingly view other Canadians, even those unlike them, as being good people. Americans, more than any other country, view their neighbours and fellow citizens as bad people. Anti-Americanism flourishes in the United States

So Hellebuyck has now interviewed with Fox News, TNSE in-house, and now the Tkachuk bros, before taking a single question or interview from any local Winnipeg media? Hello?
