It's true.
It's true.
A Watch has never been issued in Alaska. In theory, any of the 3 NWS offices can do it, but it has never been considered.
Fun fact: the Honolulu NWS office issues all Severe Thunderstorm/Tornado Watches for the state of Hawai'i, not the Storm Prediction Center.
Lol.
Could be producing large hail. ๐
Alaska?
The current temp of 81F in D.C. is closer to freezing than the current temp of -38F is in Fairbanks - by over 20F.
Beach weather. ๐๏ธ
What if it was all snow? ๐ค
Seems warm.

Fairbanks airport just after 8am AKDT Tuesday dipped to -41F/-40.6C. This ties the record low for March 10 first set in 1931, also the latest date in the season with a temp of -40F/C or lower since 1964. #akwx #weather #Climate @carrieinfbx.bsky.social @leahwrenn.bsky.social @coyotetrail.bsky.social
Spring, details later.
Winter recap just dropped.
Earlier this winter, Anchorage had a 25-day streak with below normal temperatures (blue bar). We are currently on a new streak and are at 23 days in a row. The forecast for the next 7-10 days is at least 10F below normal each day. How long will it last??? @alaskawx.bsky.social
Didn't we see it yesterday? ๐ค
Happy little trees.
We don't use water year here in Alaska. July 1 to June 30 is what we go with.
No flannel?
The Nenana Ice Classic tripod was raised yesterday. The ice thickness on March 3rd was 51". @alaskawx.bsky.social
Brilliant!
Dark, and tired. Details later.
What if it was all frost?
A remarkable 42% of the Contiguous U.S. had record Dec-Feb 500 mb heights.
500 mb standardized departures for the Dec-Feb period. There's a +3.5 std. dev. contour over the 4-Corners region.
Abbott Rd.
Seems bad.
With that height pattern, Alaska should have been colder. The fact that we were not colder is a worrying sign.
There is an overall increase in precipitation globally, but that is mostly accounted for by increased rates, not so much increasing number of days. With the warmer temperatures, there is more drying of the ground/vegetation between precipitation events. More drought in a wetter world.
The same reason that these maps show precipitation over water.
