Here we go again.
Here we go again.
No progress in heating and transport proves current policies are failing.
Countries delaying carbon pricing (ETS2) are also ignoring other decarbonisation measures. How do they expect us to hit 2030 climate targets?
We need clear phase-outs, a real carbon price, and strong social policies. report👇
2025 EU emissions data 📊
🐌 CO₂ emissions fell by an estimated 0.8% (still too slow for 2030 targets)
⚡ Power generation: -2.1%
🏭 Industry: -3.2%
🚗 Transport: -0.1% (stagnating)
⚠️ Gas-fired heating: +5.5%
Europe moves forward on renewables, but fossil demand in heating and transport keep us stuck
De Wever at it finest.
⚠️ Russia still supplies almost a quarter of Europe’s enriched uranium and uses it to exert geopolitical influence.
Take note of the countries involved; this year they’ll try to sell us the idea that the EU should replace renewable energy targets with “low-carbon” targets to include nuclear power.
Ganas de empezar con el ensayo de @xanlopez.xyz
Apuestas seguras de los reyes.
Think carbon pricing is just a tax? I used to think so too.
It’s not about punishing people who pollute. It’s about flipping the system: making the rich and the biggest polluters pay, and using that money to help everyone else ditch fossil fuels.
It’s a powerful wealth redistribution instrument
Heat pumps remain at the top of the German heating market making up 50% of the heating market in 2025, based on sales data up to October.
@bwpev.bsky.social
The hydrogen bubble has burst.
Nearly 60 major low-carbon H₂ projects have been cancelled or paused — far more capacity than the world has actually built. The reason? Fundamentals still don’t add up:
• Demand isn’t there
• Costs remain high
• Infrastructure is missing

Deregulation isn’t about speed or strength. It’s about a handful of wealthy lobbies unravelling the very rules that made Europe a global rule-maker.
Environmental laws are not “red tape.” They keep our air clean, water safe, nature thriving, and life expectancy among the highest in the world.
🪄 Let’s make the EU chad again.
We unpack in New Leaf what’s at stake in the EU’s deregulation push. Not in abstract policy terms, but in the values that shape our daily lives. This week’s issue is written by yours truly: lnkd.in/eHwRzz3R
OMNIBUS I found in breach of EU law as it departed from basic procedural guarantees such as public consultation.
This @ombudsman.europa.eu recommendation carries important implications for omnibuses to come and the whole simplification agenda www.ombudsman.europa.eu/en/recommend...
The EU always tells its story in that banner; until now.
Since I arrived here, the Commission has proudly showcased its flagship policies on its main building: recovery funds, RePowerEU… But this term? Nothing. Seems the deregulation and simplification agenda isn’t exactly banner material.

Feels like no one’s talking about energy efficiency in Brussels these days… but it could actually be one of the big EU success stories
27% of NextGenEU funds (€91 billion!) have gone into energy-saving measures: renovating buildings, supporting SMEs, helping households cut bills - latest data shows
It’s telling (and worrying) that Spain stands alone in NATO for questioning such an arbitrary and unrealistic target. Meanwhile, Trump’s best friend wants to count a bridge from mainland Italy to Sicily as NATO defence spending (!) www.politico.eu/article/ital...

completely insane
Dark enlightenment alert: the US fuels coal to power the AI boom.
Washington's energy policies are completely unacceptable. Their climate denialism will take a toll on everyone’s lives. Time to boycott American AI and demand green labels for AI running on renewables.
Totally with @davekeating.substack.com on this: "EU bureaucracy is a tired obsession national leaders use to bash Brussels - especially to distract from their own mistakes."
Given the huge challenges we face, is cutting paperwork really the EU’s priority? Are Germany’s problems really about this?
NGOs and trade unions want to draw attention to what they call a "deregulation wave" in the EU. They claim that the commission is putting the environment as well as social and labour rights at risk by prioritising competitiveness.
La factura climática crece cada día que pasa y sin embargo la UE sigue mermando el Pacto Verde. El poder de la ciudadanía para sostener consensos sociales es clave para RESISTIR. @albertovela.bsky.social @xanlopez.xyz 👇
