Honestly I don't think you should worry too much about doing literally everything especially with how short Fallout 1 is. Sometimes you kinda have to leave and come back later when you're stronger like with the deathclaws or have a REALLY good plan.
Honestly with 2 I'd argue it's kind of the opposite. The central narrative isn't as tight, but there's a lot more RP elements. A decent number of features that are bare bones in the original get revamped in 2 and are reminiscent of their later equivalents like in New Vegas.
