i just really wish writers were kinder to themselves and each other when these sorts of posts go around.
i try not to have takes in public places but it really is daunting to constantly have the austere, judgy, writing-as-a-despicable-chore takes settle in like Budweiser Brewery smell on a summer Tuesday in Columbus whenever a "share your writing advice" engagement farm post comes around.
i think the trouble with most oft-repeated writing advice is that it's purely subtractive. new writers get ideas like "show don't tell" or "don't use adverbs" or "avoid repetition" drilled in & come to view writing as joyless violence where you gouge out chunks of your own art for unclear reasons
