Indeed, that is one of the most fascinating aspects of fungi.π
Sadly there is a lot of non-native invasive stuff in the Everglades and some of it is absolutely devastating for native species.
That is very kind of you Anna. I am glad that you enjoy them. David πππ
Scarlet elf cups (Sarcoscypha sp) have had a very good season. First shot was taken in the grounds of Heriot-Watt University Campus, Riccarton west Edinburgh. The others were found in woods just outside the campus. #Fungi #Mushrooms #Mycology #Nature #Photography #Nikon

This was kind of like a βbedpostβ then? π€£ Lovely image. π
Thank you Kathy. One of the joys of Bluesky is that people post images from all over the world, which is great to see. Your Lesser American Goldfinches are stunning little birds. Unlikely I will ever see one in the wild. Enjoy! David
Brilliant Ken. π
Yes, ideal! Will you be playing 'bee bingo' down there this year? π
Nice capture Ken!! ππ
The theme for today's #BirdoftheDay set by Rob @robcrank68.bsky.social is #SideProfiles. The alt theme is #Robins. So here is a Great Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos major) taken in woods around Heriot-Watt University Campus, Riccarton, Edinburgh.
A Common Treecreeper (Certhia familiaris) taken at Bavelaw Marsh, Balerno, west of Edinburgh.
Common Reed Bunting (Emberiza schoeniclus) taken at Bavelaw Marsh, Balerno west of Edinburgh.
A heavily cropped shot of a Red-winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus) perched on the head of a resting White-tailed deer. Both male and female Red-winged Blackbirds patrol their nest territory perching on any vantage point and loudly declaring their ownership. This deer's head was just perfect for the task. Taken at the Cranberry Bog Conservation Land, Carlisle, Massachusetts.

Alan H's @alan678.bsky.social theme for #BirdOfTheDay is #photogenic, with the alt theme of #LightandShade. So here is a Black Crowned Night Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax), taken in the south Florida Everglades.
A feisty little female Common Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) looking as though she has maybe just spotted a challenger for her mate. Taken along the river Almond in Livingston, West Lothian.
A juvenile Great Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos major) taken along the Harrison Water in Livingston, West Lothian.
And for the alternative theme of #LightAndShade here is a Long Eared Owl light on one side by a setting sun. Taken in the Pentland Hills, west of Edinburgh.
