You are essentially looking at a group of people handcuffed to a radiator, most of whom were children when they were strapped there, and telling them to chew their arm off, then getting pissy that the rest won't after seeing the first bleed out in agony while you just watched.

I'm assuming you never told an addict to just quit because you know that's counterproductive. When you say "just quit" you're asking them to abandon the only world most of them have ever known for one they don't fit into and is actively hostile to them. It accomplishes less than nothing.

Okay, so you clearly do not understand what the military is. It's not a job, it's not just some thing that you do. It is your entire world. It is a radically different culture. Recruitment specifically targets marginalized impoverished children with no real hope using carefully honed cult tactics.

I'm a veteran, I promise you that's not an effective means of driving mass action in the military. Loudly causing problems gets you figuratively or literally disappeared. If you want to mess stuff up, you gotta be a careful sneaky bastard.

Chelsea didn't "just quit", she made the sacrifice worth it. She made it hurt. She didn't "just" do anything, it involved a lot of work and a lot of pain. There is no "just"when it comes to going against the will of command. It's a very difficult uphill battle.

I'm not trying to convince you of that. They don't have an obligation to quit, that's just going AWOL, they have an obligation to refuse orders. Going AWOL will just get you jail time and doesn't accomplish anything. If you are going to jail, you make it worth it.

Unfortunately, just quitting isn't exactly an option when it comes to a military contract. There are other options, but they're either a monumental task that's incredibly difficult to pull off, or illegal.

In my experience most people doing anarchism realize they're doing it. They usually just call it "doing the right thing".

I'm always telling folk that shotcallers have a place, particularly in high speed, high stress scenarios. The key difference is that if they suck at it, you aren't stuck with them, someone else can fill the spot. You also aren't reliant on one person to call shots for all situations.
