Perhaps one day things will be different, but pretending they donβt exist wonβt change them. Dissociation only does so much. Incorporating these images is a step towards acceptance, towards compassion, towards healing.
That being said - I miss how things were, the things I could do and show up for that are no longer easily accessible. Itβs easy to put on a front that everything is ok, to pretend, to run. It will not save you or change your circumstance. Disease thrives in avoidance.
It feels daunting when I actually sit with an examine everything βwrongβ with my body. Trauma manifests itself through illness - it is hard to carry the weight of both illness and trauma and their cyclical nature. Learning to embrace these parts of myself instead of abandoning them is key.
Been using my medical images (MRIs, Xray, Bone Scan) to make new work. Thinking a lot about the connection to the medical image and the artistic image. Chronic illness is heartbreaking in so many ways, but reframing my illness through an artistic lens is healing and transformative β€οΈβπ©Ή

I had a dream about my aunty who passed away recently. She was cruising in a scooter at skeena smoking three cigarettes. Always iconic - even in the afterlife β€οΈ

A flatbed steenbeck editor for 16mm film. There are multiple rollers that allow the film to wrap around and pass it through to the viewer, where it is then seen on a screen. On the screen there are a pair of womenβs legs with stockings and white high heels.

How many who now mourn David Lynch masked for him? The world is full of vulnerable people (actually all of us, after enough reinfections), and no one is masking for them -
