Twenty hours awake. The neuropathy in my leg/foot, amplified by the 20-degree drop in the daily high between Monday and Tuesday, is killing me. I have taken enough pills to tranquilize a farm animal.
I just want to sleep.

I aspire to be basic, except for the pumpkin spice. If you're not scared shitless, you're not paying attention. Likes, follows, reskeets etc. do not represent endorsements, past/current/future employers, and maybe not even myself.

In retrospect, the Disneyland measles outbreak of 2019, which resulted in the state of California nearly immediately revoking personal exemptions on vaccines, was the peak of vaccine policy. We're not going back, for a variety of reasons.

The bill banning municipalities from including gender identity as a protected class under civil rights ordinances becomes the fifth anti-trans bill in five years that was one of the first 10 signed into law in a given session.
So, are transgender people welcome in Iowa? You tell me.
(Note: The 2025 trans-erasure bill was introduced the same week that a trans man filed a lawsuit over the bathroom bill, although Steve Holt said he'd been working on it "for months.")
Finally, to round things out, the third bill signed in 2022 was the ban on trans girls in girls' sports.
The first bill signed in 2025 was eliminating gender identity as a protected class, which went from first subcommittee to signed in less than 100 hours.
The eighth bill signed in 2023 was the bathroom bill, which only applies to K-12 schools (so far). The ninth was the ban on trans youth medicine.
Pulled out of cold storage and amended in the House last Thursday. Debated in the Senate Monday. Signed by Kim Reynolds less than 24 hours after passage, and "being deemed of immediate importance," takes effect immediately.
It's the second bill signed of the 2026 session, after school funding.
I have my doubts that Apple pays attention, but that's related to their decrepitude regarding Mac OS software.
We are not safe from winter until April 15. March 15-April 15, the risk is too great that, just like this week, you'll get a couple nice days then BAM wintry mix with highs in the low 40s.
Owners of a local business at home said that dollar stores will come to town over their dead bodies. The problem is, dollar stores love building about 100 yards outside city limits.

Itβs universal to colleges, it seems, and many large citiesβ schools will set spring breaks to match.
Meanwhile, in Iowa, there is a bill that is up in the House that would mandate every school in the state have one.
My opinion is that the third week of March is way too early for βspringβ.

A nearby town is losing its grocery store for good. The inflation and loss of inventory multiple times due to blackouts were bad enough, but the real death blow was Dollar General moving in. π’
