BREAKING NEWS: An otter is a bit sleepy.
It came back. This App's been a little glitchy lately w/all the bots & such
π¦Syvieπ¦ resembles my Mud Monster Booπ whose webby toes picked up 10 lbs of mud per paw & tracked them dripping wet into the house. Good thing the floor was old linoleum for ease of mopping for ex-Roomie who never caught Boo before he came in.πΉπ
Great thread that points out our finest were not all born in America but their honorable service makes them my Brothers and Sisters!
Semper Fidelis and I thank the gods we have such folks who step up to adopt our great nation as their home that they're willing to die to defend...

"[the former DOGE employeeβnot the whistleblower] told another colleague, who refused to help him upload the data because of legal concerns, that he expected to receive a presidential pardon if his actions were deemed to be illegal."

We know that emergency managers are critically important but arenβt often thought about until after tragedy strikes.
We are building a source network to fuel in-depth coverage of the nationβs emergency preparedness.

A sepia-toned, layered artistic collage created in a vintage photographic style to honor Harriet Tubman (c. 1822β1913), the renowned abolitionist, Underground Railroad conductor, scout, spy, nurse, and suffragist. The central focus is a large, intense close-up portrait of Harriet Tubman wearing her signature dark headscarf or bandana, with a strong, resolute expression and direct gaze toward the viewer. Surrounding and overlapping this main image are several smaller, faded, and translucent portraits of her at different ages and in different poses: some show her in profile or three-quarter view, others in period clothing (long dresses, shawls, or simple blouses), and one includes a small statue or figurine of her holding a staff or lantern symbolizing guidance and freedom. The overlapping layers create a ghostly, multi-generational effect emphasizing her enduring legacy and presence. The overall warm brown tones and soft blending evoke 19th-century photography, making this a powerful tribute intended for Harriet Tubman Day, highlighting her singular courage and impact in the fight against slavery and for human rights.
Born into slavery, Harriet Tubman was an abolitionist. After her own escape, she made 13 missions to rescue enslaved people using the network of antislavery activists & safe houses known as the Underground Railroad. She died #OTD in 1913.

The other new neighbor just saw a coyote across the street & freaked out a little. It's fine, really, there are a few in the area. I didn't tell her about the chicken feather incident though. Welcome to #HellsHalfAcre πΉπ
A heartbreaking decision to make, but a wise one for her health & welfare & that of her team. She's a winner in my book! ππ¦π

there was a time of alignment
everything was in the right place
you & I began
our words came as song
a melody
in harmony
oh, how we sat
under the moon
making music
now, is a time of discordance
but still I hum soft
from memory
maybe one day
our duet will continue
there are other tunes

despite the blue skies & sunshine
out my window
the storm has found me
& my eyes are full of gray
my grief strikes like lightning
my sobs roll like thunder
I am exposed
& instead of an umbrella
you leave me in the cold rain
I know you don't have
better weather
but can't we
huddle together?

Look into the beautiful brown eyes of this beautiful young black bear. A shaft of sunlight splashes across the head and shoulders, accenting the eyes, nose, and glossy black fur. One paw is slightly raised for the next step. The bear walks along a grassy path, surrounded by dandelions, jewelweed, and other short green plants in this late summer photograph. On a side note, this is definitely one of the bears with whom I would rather take my chances.

Good fucking morning to everyone except Lindsey Graham, who says heβs standing with Israel and not the rest of us. Maybe you should go be the senator from Tel Aviv instead of South Carolina.
Let's learn about horseshoe crabs (family Limulidae).
In a few nights, a female can lay over 100,000 transparent eggs.
The fertilized eggs hatch within 2-4 weeks, having gone through 4 embryonic molts within the egg.
During this time, they're sometimes called "trilobite larvae."
We all need & deserve mental health days! Or as I used to say, I have an eye problem - I just can't see coming to work. Enjoy your day!

Absolutely fabulous photos, Connie! ππ
In water green with tree reflections, two white swans swim toward each other
Two white swans curve necks and narrow gap between them, still swimming
Finally two white swans draw close and barely touch, bills down - it looks like a heart shape
The Mute Swans had a graceful little dance with a slow approach and necks bent - they drew closer, still with curved necks ... finally ending in a heart shape from which they gracefully withdrew and passed by one another (2022) #SpringGroveCemetery
I've used both Nolo & Legal Zoom to help people get started with their wills, but most were complicated enough they took the drafts & went to a lawyer to finalize - usually due to real estate, kids/guardianships, & tax issues. It's hard, but for the most part it makes things so much easier after.π«π
Even if you decide to go to an attorney, it is helpful to start with an app version as it tells you what info to gather. Get one specific to the state of residence of the person making the will. If there's real property &/or money, you might want to consider a trust because of tax considerations.
