Waving a Johnson around in public Boris Johnson's appearance at the Covid Inquiry found the British press finally ready to admit that Emperor was naked all along.
NEW | I took a look at the coverage of Boris Johnson at the Covid Inquiry:

It left me partially deaf
First panel: a man lies on the couch in a therapistβs office. He says βI feel like Iβve finally learned to silence my inner critic when Iβm writing.β The therapist replies βAnd yet youβre still having difficulties?β Second panel: The man answersβI think thatβs down to my outer criticβ. We can now see that a man with a loudhailer is sitting on filing cabinet. He shouts βNo, it,s cosyouβre a rubbish author.β
My cartoon for yesterdayβs Guardian Books.
I popped onto BlueSky for the Archers thread. First up on my timeline was this - could not resist a further dive into the threads. Forty years after I graduated in computer science and the BBC is still writing this tosh about women and STEM
Happy birthday!
I have written to my Tory MP rather a lot. I only ever get a reply on subjects where their minions can do a cut and paste job which in most cases doesn't address the points I made and is usually why the government is right and I am not!!
Just found Esther McVey's Wokefinder General rule book

Those look so tempting
Chris Grey has a particularly strong and important entry in his #brexit blog where he forensically addresses the #covid19 enquiry as a stark, depressing and vivid illustration of the calamities of #brexit. Some points to summarise:
Same for me with the Prince of Wales!
Those are lovely! Great present for your friend
It really was!
My maternal grandfather fought in WW1 and spent some of the war recovering from an injury. He never, ever spoke of his experience. Paternal grandfather didn't fight in WW1 on health grounds (I think he had TB). I don't know what he did then but was air raid warden in WW2 & lived to be 100. I am old!
Absolutely this - and if you are on your own write down anything you might need to refer to later. On a first appointment it is easy to be overwhelmed by what you are being told. Hope it all goes well
A couple of hours remaining if you haven't yet had the chance to vote
Very true. Must be something in it ...
Title: Halloween Horror An upper tier of images labelled "Horrifying" and a lower tier labelled "Utterly Horrifying" The first column has a floating skull above, and a floating skull who borrows books and never returns them below. The second column has an evil fog above, and an evil fog with some really awful opinions below. (the fog is saying "we've got the internet so we don't need libraries") The final column has a slime fiend above, and a slime fiend who browses bookshops then buys online below.
Halloween Horror!!
Not so good on the Halloween questions - but fun nonetheless. Many thanks!
Super summary
Those look really interesting. My melons were a complete washout this year - the ones under glass just sulked
Just stumbled across this amazing gallery on Flickr showing the process of revising the Ordnance Survey, but also a series of snapshots of Swindon in 1953/4 with relics of the War, prefabs (lots of prefabs), bins, new housing - which @municipaldreams.bsky.social will enjoy - and much else.
Interesting. Our favourite coffee shop changed hands a couple of years ago - the sisters had been running it for nearly 50 years. I asked OH whether he went there for coffee in the early '70's and he said he did. I also had a coffee filter machine which I think I got in the late '70's!
Happy birthday!
Went through similar a couple of weeks ago (as I am also old). Rest up and drink plenty of fluids - I wasn't advised this, but apparently it helps. Hope it all passes soon
