[image: cover of the book The Last Dragon of the East by Katrina Kwan. very beautiful illustration of a young Asian man in a flowing white robe. he reaches out to touch a long, serpentine body that coils around him. someone stands behind him, only her hands visible as she barely touches the back of his head and over his heart. their hands are connected by a swooping red string.]
[image: cover of the book Tough Guy by Rachel Reid. ubiquitous romance cover cartoony style illustration showing a hockey player sitting on a locker room bench, his stick and helmet on the floor near his feet. a much shorter man dressed in a pink shirt and purple trousers stands next to him, hand on his shoulder, other hand holding a violin.]

Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads:
The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.
And our governments are very much the same...
- Marjane Satrapi, Iranian-French graphic novelist

aaand back to romance again. this one's a short but fantastic take on the "returning to small hometown" trope, with horses, so i'm obviously all in. Kacen Callender is one of my favorite queer writers, with protagonists i often find way too relatable (currently reading MOONFLOWER, which. ouch.)

i guess the best way to describe Gil's motivation is self-discovery. being aroace, they have this idea of what they want out of their relationships, but fear that no one else will match those expectations has kept them from exploring that part of themself before. #QueerWritersChat

in the beginning, the ideas are the motivation. if character creation and outlining isn't enough to get me started then it hasn't cooked enough/doesn't have legs. mid-draft when writing becomes harder, i'm just trying to get it over with so i can edit, which i usually enjoy. #QueerWritersChat
