I recently got my hands on a shooting schedule from near the start of principal photography for Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker. The first two acts are similar to the final film, but the third act? Friends, the third act deviates quite a bit (Kijimi lives?! Kylo talks to Han where?!? etc.)

It doesn't solve the big hanging albatross around the film's neck, Rey Palpatine (though they did do a separate 'Rey Nobody' edit later on), and I do take some issue with some of the changes centered around the climax, but damn if they didn't fix up a lot of the film with aplomb. This new ending!

You can probably calibrate what's good about Star Wars better with this single image than any ten tie-in novel or comic. Charmingly silly, treated with sober handmade craftsmanship, iconic; its a little green alien dressed like Santa Claus and the effect is warm nostalgia. The hell else does that?
