quite the transition period for me, from the last working days in France to hanging around a month to moving to applying to waiting to completing phd enrollment at the Free University of Brussels. Full of hurdles, uncertainty and bureaucratic shenanigans. but also excitement.

It's just picking up a piece of history to confirm one's believes about the world today, with the nice bonus of coming across as an informed pundit. But, just like the famous Napoleon quote ("Let China sleep..."), these parallels quickly fall apart when you actually dig a bit deeper.
Lately, some China pundits have drawn flimsy parallels from Qing-era episodes (Self-Strengthening Movement, Macartney mission, Opium Wars) to comment on today’s EU. Although I won't deny the challenges that the EU is facing, these comparisons are superficial, not to mention incredibly tacky.

Kennis koesteren, doorgeven, zelf maken ... is een maatschappelijk functie van de #universiteiten, ongeacht of die op onmiddellijk "iets oplevert". Het is een maatschappelijk goed, geen economische parameter.
Ik denk dat afhankelijk van AI in schrijfopdrachten wijst op grotere problemen: gebrek aan informatievaardigheden, weinig lezen en het feit dat schrijven nooit serieus aangeleerd wordt.

Or social spaces for families that does not require a fee, but I think irritated adults at a overflown Disneyland on a hot day are the least of the problems, compared to let’s say urban design with less green spaces and cars-dependent traffic.
