I haven’t posted much recently- this winter has been rough! But today we had a record high of 85 degrees and I had a flock of Cedar Waxwings in my yard drinking the sap from my birch tree- bring on spring!!! #birds 🪶

One of my favorite things is subjective eBird descriptions! There’s some great ones out there
The eBird summary for chipping sparrow even calls out how cute they are!
In honor of the GBBC here’s a pic featuring the first bird I saw this morning- a Mourning Dove! #birds #GBBC 🪶
Looking forward to the GBBC this weekend! #birds 🪶

I binged your whole podcast this weekend- love it!! Great work guys! I got really into the Balbum Lifer by Quokka last year and I needed to scratch the bird rock itch again!
I have great respect for those braving the temperatures in Maryland this week to bird- personally I’ve been holed up at home appreciating my backyard friends! Here’s one of my resident Downy Woodpeckers #birds 🪶
Forgot to mention the species! Eastern Bluebird, American Goldfinch, Dark Eyed Junco, Brown Creeper
A handful of snowy backyard visitors this morning #birds 🪶

Couldn’t be happier about seeing this Red-Flanked Bluetail today! First state record for Virginia. And only the second one found on the east coast US (first being in New Jersey in 2023). This bird was found on 1/1/26 and has been hanging around since- its normal range is in Asia! #birds 🪶
Holy cow!!! What an incredible video!
A Brown Creeper flexing his awesome camo jacket in my yard #birds 🪶
Damn that’s a metal bird! So cool to watch
I love that!! What a wonderful tradition
What a delight to see three Short Eared Owls yesterday! You can see the other two soar past. Sorry it’s a bit shaky- I was using my full zoom and it was freezing cold! #birds 🪶
I’m very happy with this
Oh what a great year bird!! Same to you- to quote my favorite new years song “I am gonna make it through this year if it kills me!”
What is your bird of the year? The first bird you see in 2026 is your bird of the year- mine is the Fish Crow! #birds 🪶
A Red-Bellied Woodpecker branching out in my backyard pine for #birdoftheday! #birds 🪶
Mourning Doves resting in the sun on a warm June afternoon… in my opinion, a great choice for the #birdoftheday theme of serenity. Makes me think of sitting on my deck feeling a warm breeze and hearing them sing. (Can you tell I’m sick of winter already?)
They do look very similar!!
My Pine Warbler visitor is still stopping by my feeders, and has now taken a liking to my Birdbuddy!! He’s so beautiful! #birds 🪶
