The OfS’ new free speech guidance will transform English campuses
The beefed up document could temper the influence of anti-rational ideologies and restore public trust in academia, say Ian Pace and Abhishek Saha
Here Abhishek Saha and I note how the OfS have rejected the Waltham-Smith/Murray interpretation of ECHR Article 10, and look at the far-reaching changes the guidance will bring, in terms of politicised appointments, EDI, reputational clauses, etc.

Wonder whether, when Labour MPs who voted for the Assisted Dying Bill today come to vote on disability benefit cuts in a few weeks, many will make any connection between the two or reflect more broadly on the social & economic context they are helping to shape in which such decisions will be made

Plans to replace 2031 census in England and Wales set to be abandoned after backlash
Experts warn that scrapping survey in favour of administrative records risked fragmented population data
I'm quoted in the Guardian coverage of the reprieve for the England and Wales census.
“I am absolutely delighted that the census has been saved. National census data is a foundational part of our data infrastructure"

Freedom of speech - Office for Students
Regulations and guidance for freedom of speech in English higher education.
The new OfS guidance is inspirational, and I know FoS/AF campaigners around the world will be inspired by it. It should go some real way to restoring the reputation of HE in the UK for genuine intellectual inquiry, rather than preaching orthodoxies.

Agree. We have to build on gains and play the long game to increase open science practices in sociology. I sense a lot of interest in doing so.
