Of the records made at the Tonys today, it’s especially nice to see Danny Burstein tie Jason Robards as the most nominated male actor in history. Seeing a performer who has dedicated his life to theater - mostly in supporting parts - reach this height is thrilling.

E Street Cinema, independent movie theater in downtown D.C., to close Landmark’s E Street Cinema, a hub for indie, foreign and niche films, cited business struggles since the pandemic.

This makes me sad since this has been my go-to theater for years. It’s no-frills and in the heart of downtown with a dedicated fanbase that understands that you don’t use your phone or talk while watching an arty, independent film. It’s a place for film lovers in a time when we’re a dying breed.

It’s not unheard of for people to decorate their office with inoffensive, comforting objects. Seeing another human being forced to take that down and leave the premises in the face of a job loss should invite sympathy, not scorn.

Fritz, I’m sorry to see this news, but I’m happy you’re taking such a healthy approach to it - onward and upward, my friend!
