Sure, but it wouldn't prevent them from pursuing whoever the leader is, as they have threatened.
Even if Trump decides that it's all over and withdraws the US, will Israel stop? I'm not sure.

I can't help thinking that much of Starmer's woes go back to backing McSweeney ahead of Sue Gray, who had been his own choice after all. Gray's suggestion for US Ambassador had been to leave the incumbent in place or consider David Milliband. Either of those would have offered a safe pair of hands.
