seem to have mostly gone veggie again not out of any sort of ethics but out of nostalgia for the last time I was veggie

oh like New Ravey type stuff which was a funny contrast to the actual play/production, bit of MGMT etc. I actually wish they’d made more of it!
The Holy Rosenbergs is a bit sub Miller but I don’t know that you could really write a play that discuses Israel/Palestine like this in this present moment, which is why it’s decent shout to revive www.timeout.com/london/theat...
yeah fair enough. I truly can’t really get my head around who’d go and why!
to be fair it’s a completely batshit line up that does seem to strive for balance in… whatever it’s trying to do. Both leaders of Your Party!
The American political class is utterly delusional, adrift in a dream of normality, unable to process the actual reality of events on the ground, where the US just launched a completely unprovoked war against a massive country, murdered its leadership, and demanded its conversion to a vassal state.
it’s the same list of Oliviers nominees everybody else has, with some light added musings from me over whether SOLT hate Jamie Lloyd www.timeout.com/london/news/...
ha ha
I mean maybe there is an argument it has no lead because no actor is in both halves! Does feel a bit cynical tho
if Isis Hainsworth is a supporting actor in Arcadia then does it actually have a lead?
two female actors from Brigadoon getting a joint nomination even though other actors from the same shows have had individual nominations is classic Oliviers ‘lol what?’ (they did share the role I guess)
a joint nomination for best (male) actor in a musical for the man and the woman playing Paddington does feel a bit like a seven actors playing the tiger moment
no nom for Jamie Lloyd for Much Ado is absolutely batshit, though wonder if Evita (which probably should have been nominated too) split the vote
speaking as somebody who found Stereophonic a touch overrated, my main take home from the Oliviers noms is how the hell did Stereophonic not get a best new play nom?
(a David Tennant spotting at the theatre is not really that unusual but obviously delightful to see him out last night for his stage bestie)
I don’t think you’d want every Our Town to be as cheerful as the debut production from Michael Sheen’s Welsh National Theatre but it can definitely handle it and really the whole thing is worth it just to hear how Sheen pronounces ‘Grover’s Corners’ www.timeout.com/london/news/...
world book day amirite
Arthur Miller’s greatest hits can handle anything a director throws at them but I think Broken Glass needs to be handled with more care and probably needs a more conventional 'big' performance in the role of Philip than Jordan Fein’s cool-looking Young Vic production www.timeout.com/london/theat...
omg
wow - that’s a real deep cut
I love humans so much because at any given moment they can look at you with a straight face and tell you their dog is in Dubai
I'm no political expert but I imagine America will be about five more wacky capers down by then and Americans will look at you blankly if you ask if they remember attacking Iran
the thing is taking its base for granted DID work in the New Labour era and historically it’s always had an ambivalent attitude towards immigration. I still imagine they’d walk the next election if they can get the country feeling functional again by then, but er…
can’t handle this appalling heat
I was in Birmingham last week and Midlands Today was entirely given over to a local potholes report, I think if we can parachute you into the right seat…
If we can track down an eccentric millionaire to fund you, would you consider seeing this bit through?
Evening All Afternoon at the Donmar is a very solid 90 minute two hander of the sort I think Americans write in the hope of a Broadway payday, but Erin Kellyman is sensational, best 'screen actor turns out to be amazing on stage' moment since Jodie Comer www.timeout.com/london/theat...
Bill Clinton looks properly old now which is a weird because I think the grey hair/‘twinkle in his eye’ made him look about 50 for around 40 years
well Broadway *critics* are cold blooded killers, they’d have torched it, I dunno if audiences might have had a different reaction - hard to say, I know a lot of ‘non theatre’ people who ended up seeing it because they liked her and tickets ended up being cheap and they didn’t seem to hate it
lol. I feel like the non transfer is the most acknowledgement we’re ever going to get that it didn’t work
