The jailing of Michelle Keane, a failed general election candidate in Kerry, has sparked claims that her imprisonment is linked to an alleged uncovering of election tampering. This is not true.

Conspiracy theories that the general election result was rigged or manipulated are being spread by far-right candidates who failed to gain seats in the 34th Dáil.
It follows similar claims of vote-rigging during and after the local and European elections in June.

Claims that the election was rigged began to be aired as election results began to roll in - showing not just that far-right candidates aren't going to win a Dáil seat but that many would fail to get their deposits or expenses back.
