They could even just get the train to Montreal and see some great examples

Ottawa resident for the past few decades. I'm passionate about biking, the outdoors, municipal politics and urban places for people. I'm also a nurse and believe in science and vaccines. Oh and I love local beer on a fun patio. π³οΈβπ
They could even just get the train to Montreal and see some great examples
Maybe we should book some of those new direct flights from ottawa to London for senior staff and council to see what real G7 capital city does to make great #PlacesForPeople; call it a trade mission and bring thought leaders/advocates to show how power of design affects economy, wellbeing.
For the Ford government, the cruelty is the point.
(Closing the supervised consumption site in my community has made things so much worse.)
A little ironic as @timtierney.ca previously voted against the provincial inquiry into the LRT issues

Yes the local councillor has done a lot of hard work to help support and grow this program.
I'm sure you meant to call out @arieltroster.com and thank her in this post. Instead you've made it look like this was your accomplishment, which is untrue and dishonest.
We used overhead electric on our streetcars 100 years ago without regular issues ....
#Montreal and #Ottawa both received the same PriceWaterhouseCoopers study outlining how they could revitalize their downtowns post-pandemic.
City of Ottawa this week: we are canceling pedestrianization plans in Byward Market.
City of Montreal: Hold my beer.

Right. How could the designers, builders and the politicians who signed off on Line 1 have known Ottawa would have winter weather? π
Downtown councillor asks #Ottawa city staff on No Right Turn on Red downtown. Answer: No.
- Drivers may be inconvenienced
- Drivers will break the law anyways.
- Not enough people are being injured.

I don't know of anyone I've spoken with who advocates banning private vehicles
That's somewhat disingenuous. We spend much more annually widening roads and building new roads than we do on transit.
We'll never achieve the modal shift the city's plans call for at this rate
3rd major break in just 6 years. Each time we're promised it won't happen again and that we've "learned". If heated lines are what's required let's just do it
Including the original Line 1 transit disruptions we've had over a decade of just terrible service that continues to get worse
One bus ride a few years back this young women shared all of her (quite shocking) financial issues with all the passengers
There are many days I don't understand people
Anyone wonder what his performance evaluations look like. I'd hope they say "failed to meet expectations" but in this city I doubt it
We'd have been better off if the sinkhole had swallowed up Watson as well.
Too fucking familiar. jchianello.substack.com/p/ottawa-jus...
I honestly don't know how councillors like Ariel do it. I'm grateful they do but it must be so frustrating and discouraging at times
Bottom line from the last 6 years of COVID research : If youβve got blood vessels, youβd be wise to avoid additional infections.
Now is a great time to normalize wearing a respirator. Might feel awkward at first, but every person who does makes it easier for others to follow. Be a leader. π·
Which century do you belong in @mayormarksutcliffe.bsky.social
This is my biggest pet peeve. I want to carry around extra headphones just to ask people if they've forgotten theirs!
The funniest and most bizarre is when they point the bottom of the phone at their mouth to speak and then hold the bottom up closer to their ear to listen to the phone speaker
I totally agree. What I object to are the ongoing promises that it is or will be fixed
We're lucky to have a few councillors, like yourself, who are willing to educate voters about the issues, be honest about limits/costs and who foster open discussion
Too many are sycophants who ride along with whatever angry uniformed opinion will get them elected and have no integrity
On rare occasions I think of taking OCTranspo somewhere.
The first thing I looked up isn't the route options or the travel times. First I check to see if the train is running. That's messed up π
This is the 3rd major shutdown for the same issue since 2019. Each time we're promised that they've learned from it and that next time will be better
Then it happens again
Remember how @mayormarksutcliffe.bsky.social promised to fix transit?
He's failed. Or he lied π€‘

So hereβs the thing: when the head of OC transpo says things like this, I got back to first principles. 1/ www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
This mayor is something. As I said before. I don't mind poli, just don't be a fake turd.
'Lets gas light everyone, that I care about the market.
Naa I care about pavement, parking spots and the few businesses that will donate to my reelection.
Everything else, my actions are self evident'
I wonder if the city shares how many trees are planted in year X, the cut trees are deducted. I mean, if you boast planting say 1000 new trees but youβve cut 1050 too, then there isnβt any progress @ecologyottawa.bsky.social @wvangeest.bsky.social
Then why isn't the project being re-presented with the changes?
We've spent billions on an LRT and meanwhile we're paving over more greenspace for roads and widenings.
It's beyond idiotic how far this city will go, catering only to those in a car
Yesterday:
Council approved yet another LRT Stage 1 settlement,
Council approved more money for Byward but postponed the key walkability measure for 3 years,
PWHL announced their discussion on moving out of Lansdowne because Council approved a smaller arena, and
LRT broke in another light ice storm.
Mayor doing his relection fringe tour.
Roads roads, more roads.
