haha! no worries! youtube has definitely improved my music theory knowledge. i'm honestly a very slow learner. but i had the luck of having a class way back in high school. i've been playing dulicmer since i was nine. my gramps built my first one. 🥲
two chromatic dulcimers.
most are diatonic, but i've seen some pentatonic ones. the one i'm currently playing on is custom built for modal experimentation.
the second with the six sound holes is my main one. i gave the other to my son.
i'll take my fun posts over my cranky ones blowing up but it's still like, welp there's that old panic attack trying to pop up, again. 😅
at least this time i get to geek out about something like music theory.
Verses are in D, chorus is in F. That square, kinda modal feeling you get are exactly those modulation points.
btw, my dulcimer is chromatic which is the only way i can get that key change at all.
the cool thing is since the dulcimer i'm playing on is a naturally modal instrument, if you stick with the same drone, the F chorus goes straight into the Aeolian mode, choosing major chords for it is such a cool but unexpected choice. i love it!
