It is really weird to me when people don’t like reading and books.
I get not having enough time to read. I get wanting to read more, but there are just too many distractions around you. Obviously, I get having disabilities that make it difficult to read.
But just not liking books? Who are you?

I have started watching STRANGER THINGS for the first time. My kids are watching with me, but my wife is unsure if it is too scary for her. We're 3-4 episodes in, and I'm enjoying it so far.

I just came up with a great succinct description for a new book club we're looking to launch at my branch:
"Encourage reading while building community through conversation"
Assisting patrons will absolutely involve saying, "Don't use it for this or that purpose," but is "don't" really the extent of our engagement?
However, I also know that I have library patrons who are curious and are already using generative AI.
Is it not my duty to assist my community in understanding and learning about this technology, rather than giving them a speech about my professional ethics and refusing to engage with AI?
I am concerned about AI usage in schools, libraries, and workplaces, particularly where it degrades people's abilities to reason and develop their own worldviews. I hate that anyone would use it as a replacement for a human artist or creator.
I am pragmatic about AI. I am open to anti-AI arguments around sustainability and the unethical methods used to train their models. I am critical of many of the ways that AI is being used and believe that most of the hype around the technology is purely to juice the stock of companies like OpenAI.
