We're a multilingual country and we often mix a bit of English in, at times when we don't have vernacular equivalents that work, but at times to signal inclusion. Language purists tend to be seen as overly nationalistic.
Quirky and funny and quite lovely. "Mamma mia" becomes "Mama wami". I also like the mbaqanga style guitar work as conversation with the original. Zulu steam punk moments, or something like that.

A new album: Covers of songs by the legendary Afrikaans singer-songwriter Koos du Plessis. Mostly his own compositions, but also lyrics put to music by his daughter Karla and me. Koos du Plessis died in 1984 and would have been 80 years old this year.

Afrikaner "refugees from genocide" in the US? Here I am, an Afrikaner, at the graduation ceremony of the University of Fort Hare, South Africa's oldest Black university. On stage is an Afrikaner dean. The crowd is singing an Afrikaans song in celebration of their degrees. Genocide? I think not.
The band has a new video for an old song (from 2022) made from a very, very old movie (from 1925). We have a bit of an old movie obsession right now. The lyrics are in Afrikaans, comical take on a confident guy who gets his ass kicked by a dom.
