"Human writing often includes some clunky phrases, like this passage from Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian, caused by the author's aversion to punctuation: 'As well ask men what they think of stone.'"
This is the stupidest g.d. thing I have read all day.

In Churchill,Canada,1of the few towns where polar bears roam freely,it is common for residents to leave their car doors unlocked. This is not due to negligence but is instead a crucial safety measure:in the event of an unexpected encounter w a bear any1 can escape in a nrby auto.

Lynch considers. "No. I don't have pets. Well, I had a dog named Sparky once, a Jack Russell terrier that I say was the love of my life. I like dogs, but then when you go out your worry about them."
"Maybe you need something smaller," suggests the interviewer. "I have a mouse."
Lynch perks up. "A little mouse, huh? And he's your pal! Well, isn't that great. I live near an overlook, and there was this guy who would put his mouse into the cockpit of a remote-controlled glider and float him out over Hollywood. I guess the mouse really dug it."
once again thinking of this david lynch exchange

One of the best ways I know to sort Gen Xers/old Millennials into levels of trustworthiness is to take note of which beloved 80s/90s comic strip they never shut up about. Calvin & Hobbes? That's a good-hearted normie. Far Side? Probably annoying, plays hours of RPGs. Bloom County? Fully radicalized.

A great day on the Dublin Bird Race yesterday. 11 teams took part recording 109 species.
A decent tally given the persistent, (very wet) rain.
1st place went to โThe Troy Parrottsโ beating favorites the โSouthside Swiftsโ. Best name goes to โIrritable Owl Syndromeโ #SpeirGorm #IrishBirding 1/2

Stunning footage from earlier today, when the new Kilauea eruption covered the USGS Webcam 3, which is situated in the Halemaสปumaสปu crater near the southern rim of the much larger Kilauea caldera.
This *isn't* what the people of Pompeii saw.
But it's not very far off.
