Day two of Teaching During the First Week of Daylight Saving Time
Day two of Teaching During the First Week of Daylight Saving Time
We were in Portland on my birthday in mid June one year and it was drizzling and 57 degrees and I donβt think Iβve ever had better birthday weather. Add to that several hours in Powellβs bookstore and it was perfect.
Sadly my allergies do not agree but yes it appears so. (I still wouldnβt want that even IF my allergies agreed, actually. I hate hot weather. If it werenβt made of trees, all of which I am allergic to in various differing but equally unfun ways, Iβd live in the Pacific northwest.)
πππ
Meanwhile if you admit to *gasp* liking it, you get accused of being a paid shill.
My very-much-not-a-morning-person self was on the struggle bus today.
I also discovered someone who doesnβt understand the difference between time zones and Daylight Saving Time.
They really were a good pair. I understand Wil Wheatonβs mixed feelings at the time, especially given that heβs said he never actually wanted to act, but I wish Wes had stuck around.
Helped DEVELOP, not developed. For Godβs sake, autocorrect! π
My grandpa, our familyβs OG Star Trek fan, helped developed the very first version of gps technology back in the day. Heβd be delighted by this.
Right? And ENT did one too.
(Though my favorite homage is the original Battlestar Galactica, and the only reason in the entire world for Galactica 1980 to exist.)
1. Itβsβ¦pretty much what Iβd expect someone with mixed JemβHadar and Klingon heritage to look like?
2. They literally did an βEnemy Mineβ homage last season on SNW, not even taking into account the several others.
3. π€¦ββοΈ
This pebble voted and feels as helpless as any pebble in an avalanche. I didnβt want any of this. I didnβt want it in 1990. I didnβt want it in 2001 or 2003 and I donβt want it today. But Iβm a pebble and the avalanche started a very long time ago, only to be given an orange shove yesterday.
This might sound weird but go with me here. Episodes like this and βFace of the Enemyβ (and even the Sex Candle one whose name escapes me) make me retroactively angry because all three are such good actresses and so rarely get to actually do anything with their talents.
The actual idea of Risa being a fake paradise maintained just for the enjoyment of its patrons? Amazing.
The rest of it? π¬
Rereading βThe Romulan Wayβ right now after finishing βSpockβs World.β Those ARE my headcanon Vulcans and βRomulans.β
So hereβs a pro-tip. If you are a CT scan technician and you are presented with a woman in a larger body, maybe DONβT imply she canβt walk down a hallway to the CT Scan room and then when you are told she CAN, speed walk the distance in some kind of weird passive-aggressive race?
Absolutely. Brightspot became a captain eventually. Another StarFreedom wound up CMO of a hospital ship.
FTR, I am not watching him lie through his teeth for two hours. I am instead writing an IEP before the night before the meeting (please clap).
I finished rereading Spockβs World and have started The Romulan Way and (1) my nonexistent kingdom for an adaptation of the Sundering and (2) we really, truly, desperately need a Surak.
Classroom Friendly Supplies pencil sharpeners are the GOAT (you can even get replacement blades) and that one had gone through a LOT over the years but they donβt have overnight shipping and we sharpen a LOT of pencils. π€·πΌββοΈ
(We still have the dupe. Everyone picks the real one instead. π€£)
Assessment form
I have to fill out for my fifth gradersβ tri assessments: recognizes when an item for purchase is of low quality
Me: does it count when Kid looked at my knockoff Classroom Friendly Supplies pencil sharpener I got off Amazon when ours broke and said suspiciously, βIs that a dupe?β
Ugh, feel better!
I vote we have a Sympathy Snow Day here in SoCal. I miss last weekβs three-day weekend. Any takers?
(But seriously: be safe, east coast pals.)
Oooh no. π€¦ββοΈ *Teacher Bestiesβ classes. (Yes I could delete and repost but itβs late and Iβve had a hormone-induced migraine for two days and Iβm lazy but also Iβm a grammar pendant so here is part two of my comment as an absurdly long run-on sentence. π€£)
Itβs wild. Norovirus swept through our K classes w/a vengeance. Flu-A TOOK OUT both of Teacher Bestieβs classes (each had days with 3-4 kids), but my class, w/a few kids who ride the same bus as kids from their class, has (so far) been perfectly healthy. Not complaining in the least but Iβm baffled.
Bonus points if the song theyβre singing was written by Sunfall.
(I would also accept one of the Doctorβs opera singing buddies being Rushlightβs descendant.)
Very random belated thought but if #StarfleetAcademy can canonize and base a whole episode on an alien race from one of the four-book special literary βeventsβ from the late 90s/early 2000s, surely we can meet a descendent of Brightspot or Another StarFreedom, even in passing. Right? Right??
Daniel Thomas May, apparently, while recording the audiobook of CJ Cherryhβs βTrackerβ (far into her Foreigner series): okay but what if this atevi tech who has (fortunate) three total lines sounded like Kermit the Frog?
(I replayed it three times just because I needed a laugh today π€£π€£)
