Day two of Teaching During the First Week of Daylight Saving Time

We were in Portland on my birthday in mid June one year and it was drizzling and 57 degrees and I don’t think I’ve ever had better birthday weather. Add to that several hours in Powell’s bookstore and it was perfect.

Sadly my allergies do not agree but yes it appears so. (I still wouldn’t want that even IF my allergies agreed, actually. I hate hot weather. If it weren’t made of trees, all of which I am allergic to in various differing but equally unfun ways, I’d live in the Pacific northwest.)

My very-much-not-a-morning-person self was on the struggle bus today.

I also discovered someone who doesn’t understand the difference between time zones and Daylight Saving Time.

They really were a good pair. I understand Wil Wheaton’s mixed feelings at the time, especially given that he’s said he never actually wanted to act, but I wish Wes had stuck around.

This might sound weird but go with me here. Episodes like this and “Face of the Enemy” (and even the Sex Candle one whose name escapes me) make me retroactively angry because all three are such good actresses and so rarely get to actually do anything with their talents.

The actual idea of Risa being a fake paradise maintained just for the enjoyment of its patrons? Amazing.

Rereading “The Romulan Way” right now after finishing “Spock’s World.” Those ARE my headcanon Vulcans and “Romulans.”

So here’s a pro-tip. If you are a CT scan technician and you are presented with a woman in a larger body, maybe DON’T imply she can’t walk down a hallway to the CT Scan room and then when you are told she CAN, speed walk the distance in some kind of weird passive-aggressive race?

I finished rereading Spock’s World and have started The Romulan Way and (1) my nonexistent kingdom for an adaptation of the Sundering and (2) we really, truly, desperately need a Surak.

Classroom Friendly Supplies pencil sharpeners are the GOAT (you can even get replacement blades) and that one had gone through a LOT over the years but they don’t have overnight shipping and we sharpen a LOT of pencils. 🤷🏼‍♀️

(We still have the dupe. Everyone picks the real one instead. 🤣)

Me: does it count when Kid looked at my knockoff Classroom Friendly Supplies pencil sharpener I got off Amazon when ours broke and said suspiciously, “Is that a dupe?”

I vote we have a Sympathy Snow Day here in SoCal. I miss last week’s three-day weekend. Any takers?

Oooh no. 🤦‍♀️ *Teacher Besties’ classes. (Yes I could delete and repost but it’s late and I’ve had a hormone-induced migraine for two days and I’m lazy but also I’m a grammar pendant so here is part two of my comment as an absurdly long run-on sentence. 🤣)

It’s wild. Norovirus swept through our K classes w/a vengeance. Flu-A TOOK OUT both of Teacher Bestie’s classes (each had days with 3-4 kids), but my class, w/a few kids who ride the same bus as kids from their class, has (so far) been perfectly healthy. Not complaining in the least but I’m baffled.

Bonus points if the song they’re singing was written by Sunfall.

(I would also accept one of the Doctor’s opera singing buddies being Rushlight’s descendant.)

Very random belated thought but if #StarfleetAcademy can canonize and base a whole episode on an alien race from one of the four-book special literary “events” from the late 90s/early 2000s, surely we can meet a descendent of Brightspot or Another StarFreedom, even in passing. Right? Right??

Daniel Thomas May, apparently, while recording the audiobook of CJ Cherryh’s “Tracker” (far into her Foreigner series): okay but what if this atevi tech who has (fortunate) three total lines sounded like Kermit the Frog?
