It's been a nightmare! I prepared a suspected Shuvo skull bone that turned out to be a coelacanth skull bone. And another suspected Shuvo bone ended up being drepanosaur. π€£
Some examples: top pterygoid we call 'the needle' and the bottom pterygoid we call 'the potato chip'
Seven years of my life were spent preparing this animal!
I've spent the last seven years preparing almost every single bone in that description paper and preparing dozens more for future papers! Love this little animal!
Hey you. A while ago I was given this awesome, old gorgonopsian model. It has no logo, brand, name, etc. on it. I'm intensely curious about it! Does anyone know anything about this model? I'd love to know the artist who created this and to know the year it was produced! Help??
*knocks a cup off the counter and stares at the barista*
Three paintings depicting living gorgonopsians, hanging on a wall.
I don't get to spend a lot of time in my office, which is sad, because now there are three original @wargonopsid.bsky.social paintings hanging on the wall. So, I just want to sit there and look at them! πππππ
I AM THE NUMBER ONE CLAM FAN!!
A closer crop of the Lycaenops, which my spouse insists is some paleo Kabedon lol
A pair of Lycaenops scrap in the ferny undergrowthy edge of a Permian conifer forest . Acrylic and watercolor.
Ok Iβll sign this later but I decided done was better than perfect. A pair of Lycaenops have an argument over a stick. Did you know we have found gorgons with other gorgons teeth embedded in their face, with healing after? Itβs true! Anyway, it felt very dog park and I had to make it happen. #sciart
Grey chalk and green grass, with 5 paleontologists figuring how to flip a jacketed giant clam over
Jacket flipping (this is just 1 clam) is a team sport. @pinuppaleontology.bsky.social @paleo-hank.bsky.social @casidor.bsky.social
Son of Chowder is free from the chalk!
You say that now π€£
This is a teaser for what is about to happen in a few weeks. A possible bucket moment may happen for me!
Not stuck working on a stupid xiphactinus somewhere ...yet. Yet.
I know that specimen.... π€£ I can't wait to see it in person again!
That case has some absolute winners π€£
When insect fossils are this intact, just looking at them makes you go WHOA. Plus, preserved body structures reveal how their group evolved! In my latest for @cnn.com, I wrote about how a truly stunning cicada fossil from Germany's Messel Pit places singing cicadas in Europe earlier than expected π§ͺ
I donβt mean to alarm anyone, but the orcas now have two F/A-18 Hornets
I'll be galavanting about in the chalk in a few weeks! I can't wait! Oh yeah. Anthony will be there too.
Need more clam
I am advocating for due process for Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
Burgum highlighting the work that Colossal did should make every person at Colossal rethink their relationship with the company. This fake dire wolf announcement was incredible misinformation and the company needs to massively recalibrate their media output to be 200% more honest.

Reconstruction of a Dire Wolf standing in alter pose (bottom) and two sketches of the head of Aenocyon growling (top left) and almost from the front (top right)
Dire Wolf (Aenocyon dirus) thread.
No, those wolves in the news yesterday are NOT dire wolves. To be clear those are Gray Wolves with just a few genes modified based on Dire Wolf DNA through CRISPR

A skull of a giant armadillo in white fossil bone. The top has two punctures made by a cat.
This Glyptotherium has a couple more head holes than usual. See the two ovals on top? Those are canine tooth punctures from a big catβs bite. It could have been a large jaguar, or a sabercat like Smilodon, but either way it was a bad day for this giant armadillo. π§ͺ
Checking my signal app constantly in hopes I get added to a secret war planning chat π€π»π€π»π€π»πππ
