Seconded, my intro was The Adventure Zone: Balance. I found it a bit easier because then you could see the mechanics in context rather than just reading them off the handbook

Find a friend who rants about it for hours on end and you’ll learn some of the rules, but I’d recommend checking out any local game shops or tabletop game groups in your area! Even places like board game cafes/bars will have postings for d&d usually, or university game clubs
