This should be the biggest weather and climate news on your radar today.
You can send an email today to say why dismantling NCAR is a bad idea for everyone: NSF_NCAR@nsf.gov

#ClimateModels can't match #LongTerm observed changes in the #TropicalPacific zonal #SSTGradient, implying model responses to growing radiative forcing from #GHG is diverging. #ClimateChange #CMIP6 @hannah-byrne.bsky.social @lamont.columbia.edu @climate.columbia.edu

This work also wouldn't be possible without the resources and simulations provided by @ncar-cgd.bsky.social !!
Backstory: This work started back when @aakashsane.bsky.social and I were grad students in @baylorfk.bsky.social 's lab. Most of the discussions during lab meetings were way over my head, but this paper shows that I did get something out of all these meetings in the end!
A more detailed description of our approach can be found in another paper Aakash wrote

This work was inspired by @aakashsane.bsky.social's PhD work on the Narragansett Bay. Here's a 2min video on one of his works made by @baylorfk.bsky.social

Excited to share our new paper (w/ @aakashsane.bsky.social @baylorfk.bsky.social) where we used the CESM-LME and information theory to understand Pacific decadal variability! ๐

Have you been following @profmattjones.bsky.social and @raindrop-herder.bsky.social who are sharing insights into the work of the PAGES 2k Network working group?
Drop them a follow to see what else they have in store during the #21daysof2k!

Check out @cpallone.bsky.social et al. (2025) in QSR, which reconstructs eastern equatorial Pacific thermocline response to orbital forcing. Exciting to see research I contributed to for my undergrad thesis now published!!

Excited to (finally) share my new paper on Pacific SST and western North America hydroclimate during the Holocene! TL;DR They are connected, CO2 and precession both affect hydroclimate. Thanks @xiaojingdu.bsky.social @meredithparish.bsky.social @baylorfk.bsky.social+others

Big up to @rdzombak.bsky.social for bringing eyes to this story. ๐งช
So many people beyond my little cohort of fellows are impacted by slowdowns at NOAA. America is rapidly losing footing as a leader in climate science and we all are paying the cost.
New Science Advances paper on Plio-Pleistocene northern African hydroclimate! Tl;dr the wet summer monsoon = summer insolation & the dry winter monsoon = global ice volume

Details of Tehreem Qureshi's poster, titled Characterizing the Unprecedented Co-Occurrence of 2023 Boreal Summer Heat Extremes in Central America, Western Europe, and Central Asia. It will be on Monday, December 9, 2024 from 1:40PM -5:30 PM at Hall B-C (Poster Hall).
Perhaps more excitingly, Tehreem Qureshi, a @lamontearth.bsky.social summer intern who worked with me, Yelin Jiang and Jason Smerdon, will present a poster at #AGU24! Come and learn about what she did this summer and will do for her senior thesis! P.S.: She's currently applying to grad school!
Details of my presentation, titled Decadally synchronous Pan-Pacific hydroclimate extremes over the last millennium. It will be on Thursday December 12, 2024 from 11:30-11:40 AM at 102 A-B (Convention Center).
Excited to present my work at #AGU24 on decadal-scale sychronous pan-Pacific hydroclimate extremes over the last millennium! Stop by and learn about what I've been up to lately at Lamont!
