That's true. But she never let go. She kept mentioning how "he's out to spite me". I think she hung onto that bitterness too long and it destroyed her soul. She should have been angry, don't get me wrong, but it destroyed her.

I think the house being so lavish is a key here. She had the career, the house and the fame. And he was down. Then he kind of went back to basics and discovered true happiness. And she is empty.
