I guess improving transit isn’t an option.
I guess improving transit isn’t an option.
The only thing staff and the BIA seem to be interested is getting people there, by car. There is so little thought put towards being there. Right now it’s not a destination worth going to, everything offered there I can get at a suburban mall or worse online. It had to be worth being there.
It would be interesting to know how many parking spaces the city maintains, parkade, surface lots, paid on street, and residential on street parking. And how many parking spaces per car there are.
Love it that the staff at my bike shop know my name. My wallet and wife like it less.
I mean there were worse plans. At least it was sunken, with plans to build over top. Obviously public transit/subway would have been best.
This isn’t the flex you think it is. This is about the only election promise you’ve kept, the city is deteriorating under your watch.
Thank you for leading by example and using OC Transpo. It is important that city leaders regularly experience the services they provide and expect citizens to use, and can experience the issues with it.
This is important work, keep it up. Another worthy inquiry would be what’s the City’s accepted death/injury of pedestrians per seconds saved for vehicles. Active transport improvements improve safety, lives. Vehicle movement improvements are measured in seconds. So what’s the lives/seconds value
So that’s Kiweki Point behind the train, which at the time had a road along it, scenic drive I guess. GeoOttawa 1965 aerial photo.
If no rights on red could reduce cyclist collisions by 20%, that seems like something worth doing.
Widening roads is only a temporary measure and leads to induced demand. Invest in transit and active transportation to provide options other than a car.
Sad to see more cars than people in these renderings, but guess that’s to be expected from you.
I will say this when it comes to public transit in #ottawa in lieu of the municipal election in 2026: we’re going to need candidates to campaign using public transit only. Walk, bike, use car share and transit. Be very fucking loud about it. Video it, centre storytelling around it
And that will turn away even more people from OC.
Continuing down a path of poor transit, no trees, crumbling infrastructure etc etc etc.
No!
And it shows in the infrastructure repair backlog and lacklustre services. You shouldn’t be proud of this, you’re just burdening future generations with a massive bill.
Document 1 - Bank Street (Rideau Canal to Highway 417) Active Transportation and Transit Operations Feasibility Study - Scoping Document 1.0 Introduction This scoping document is in response the following motion approved by Transportation Committee on December 1, 2021, and Council on December 8, 2021: *THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that staff be directed to scope a study to improve active transportation facilities and enhance transit operations, including considerations for a potential pilot project on Bank Street (from the Canal to the Queensway), and as part of that scoping, identify a consultation program, a study cost estimate and options for funding source to undertake the study, and report back to Transportation Committee on this scoping effort by mid 2022. The Bank Street Corridor (Figure 1) is approximately 1.5 kilometres in length between the Rideau Canal and Highway 417. Bank Street is used by OC Transpo bus routes (6 and 7), and currently operates in mixed traffic. In addition, special service routes (450, 451, 452, 454, 455, 456) as well as STO use this section of Bank Street for Lansdowne/TD Place events.
We don’t talk enough about how slowly the City of Ottawa moves to help residents.
The Bank Street Transit Study was first proposed in 2021, and its implementation has been delayed again.
The worst part? The study’s proposal includes just 2 hours of combined bus lanes a day!
Wouldn’t that be the dream.
Mark Sutcliffe: “everyone needs to be in the office every day so the Sparks Street BIA won’t be sadl
Also Mark Sutcliffe: “oops! Train no work! Anyways here’s a $500 million real estate giveaway”
From what budget do these emergency repairs come from? How much is budgeted?
Tolls are allowed in Ontario, so could municipal speed cameras be reactivated as automated toll collection devices for use of express lanes?
So that works out to about 23km/h. Not sure what to do with that, but wondering if that’s a metric that’s looked at for service.
How is it we can add private security guards to the market without a big staff report or even council debate on their impact but not “just do” other things like banning right on red in downtown intersections?
We can just try more things if we wanted to.
“Any other prescribed reason.” Cars at all costs
Well said.
pros and cons list of Putting in protected mobility lanesPros reduce fatalities, reduce injuries, more people biking, less pollution, economic boost, less congestion, healthier population, kids biking/rolling to school, safer sidewalks, helps address the climate emergency, increase active transportation, more inclusive spaces. Cons: A driver might get mad.
If only the pros outweighed the cons.
We could cross out "snow removal" and the headline would be just as true ...
Ottawa's snow removal standards are bad, with no plans on getting better | Opinion ottawacitizen.com/news/local-n...
Shocking that poorly thought out provincial legislation with little consultation has produced this boondoggle. Shocking!
Would look a lot better with people on it, but alas…
