just learned about veneers? it's like toupées for teeth. imagine smiling for a bit too long on a windy morning and suddenly 32 teeth are flying out of your mouth and floating away towards the unknown. it would mess up my whole day

at first i was thinking we should put a jack in a box in every pack of cigarettes to spook off smokers when they try to take one but actually i think it's fun and everyone will want to open the pack so instead the little dude should be living off cigarettes and everytime you take one he gets weaker

it does help a lot, thanks! breaking it down like this makes a lot of sense, the monolithic chunky piece of math aspect of it is off putting but like you said, it can't work without contextualizing it and i guess getting better at identifying patterns should help as well

no need for textures - the mesh has "center" edges with their vertices colored in black (0), and the rest of the vertices colored in white (1). vertex colors get interpolated automatically so you have a "free" distance field, the shader dismisses any pixel if their color is more than x

1st iteration was relying too much on unity (deprecated?) (or not?) (who knows) graph system and it was a pain to recompile dialogues, keep separate editor copies etc
2nd iteration was awkwardly storing the dialogues in scenes
