In a Feb. 20 filing, the agency said that a 2022 appeals court decision requires the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to dismiss a request to approve the 124-mile Constitution Pipeline that would move gas from Pennsylvania to markets in New York and New England. Trump makes misleading energy claims in his State of the Union address

This week, President Donald Trump made misleading claims about record natural gas and oil production at his second State of the Union address of his second administration. Trump has experienced the same upward trend of rising domestic oil and gas production that started around 2005-2007 with the “shale revolution” of expanded hydraulic fracturing and rose sharply under former presidents Obama and Biden.

California sues Trump Administration for pulling $1.2 billion in hydrogen funds

The state challenged the administration's removal of funds for the Alliance for Renewable Clean Hydrogen Energy System, according to a Wednesday news release. The proposal involves building out a system of hydrogen production facilities, fueling stations, and end users, such as transit systems. It involved blending hydrogen with natural gas at power plants before an eventual transition to "100% clean hydrogen," according to a Department of Energy factsheet.

The Trump Administration has authorized the Texas GulfLink oil export project off the coast of Brazoria County, southeast of Houston. The Maritime Administration on Feb. 3 issued a license for the deepwater port, capable of exporting 1 million barrels of crude oil per day, supplied by 50 miles of pipelines. Trump Administration guts EPA’s role in reducing tailpipe emissions

A recent end to EPA’s “endangerment finding,” the scientific determination that a rapidly warming climate requires the EPA to step in to protect human health, leaves the U.S. without effective fuel economy standards on the books, experts told the New York Times. Transportation is the U.S.’s largest source of greenhouse gas emissions that are worsening droughts, heatwaves, floods, and sea level rise.

New oil and gas lease sale in the Gulf of Mexico to be held in March

On March 11, 2026, over 80 million acres of the outer continental shelf in the Gulf of Mexico will be available for an oil and gas lease sale, according to E&E News. More oil and gas lease sales are expected in the Gulf of Mexico; the One Big Beautiful Bill Act requires 30 lease sales in the Gulf before the end of 2040. The act also requires six auctions in Alaska’s Cook Inlet. In December 2025, a lease sale in the Gulf of Mexico auctioned off 80 million acres in federal waters and saw 30 companies submit more than 200 bids for oil and gas production.
