1/ Big milestone this week:
Seattle Neighborhood Greenways is now @streetsalliance.bsky.social.
I joined the organization in 2023 and one of the big projects waiting for me was helping guide this rebrand.
Central Seattle Greenways is excited to announce our new name:
π Central Seattle Streets for All
What's not changing:
β€οΈ Our belief that all people should be able to get around safely without a car. Our passion for making Seattle a better place. Our partnership with @streetsalliance.bsky.social.
The Seattle @streetsalliance.bsky.social is one of the most significant safe streets organizations to form in recent memory anywhere in the nation. Their bottom-up leadership model is powerful and could be adapted in many other places. It's empowering for volunteers and fun to start a local group.

Seattle Neighborhood Greenways is now Seattle Streets Alliance!
After 15 years of organizing for safer streets, our work has grown far beyond neighborhood greenways.
Our new name reflects a broader mission: making every Seattle street safer and more welcoming for people who walk, bike, and roll.
After 13 years of working for @sngreenways.bsky.social, I'm now working for @streetsalliance.bsky.social! Wait, what? Read more on @theurbanist.org

Itβs official! We have changed our name to Rainier Valley Safe Streets as part of the rebranding of now Seattle Streets Alliance @sngreenways.bsky.social
This helps with past confusion (we donβt manage the cityβs greenways program)
With a new name, our advocacy for safer streets for all continues

Denny Way without cars.
Walking, biking, and transit got a million people downtown yesterday but letβs fill the streets with cars again and pretend it never happened.
"The Study's recommended configuration: One bus lane and one vehicle lane in each direction, plus dedicated space for people walking, rolling and biking. This balances multiple needs while prioritizing what works best for the most people."
βΌοΈHonestly, a sea change for WSDOT. Kudos to Anna and others
"Few opportunities in the levy are greater than on Rainier Ave, where repaving, safety work, and transit upgrades...all converge, especially around Judkins Park Station...the road remains incredibly dangerous...even as it welcomes thousands of additional neighbors via significant housing growth."

SDOT greenlit a similar project in West Seattle on Friday: SW Lander Street, west of California Avenue.
Yay, glad to see this finally announced publicly! The Burke Gilman is our stateβs most popular trail and it should be comfortable, safe, and accessible for all. If it were a highway we would already have widened it. The design next to UW Medical should be the standard (with the addition of lighting)
Thank you!
