YES! The wonderful @emmabooth.bsky.social livestream service is available for the conference. Follow that to follow what's happening here! #MetaFutures
Very happy to be representing @thoth-metadata.bsky.social at the CILIP MDG conference today - and will be joined by Hannah Hillen tomorrow. Do say Hi if you're here π #MetaFutures
On my way there now! Looking forward to finding out more about AI and collaborative metadata generation and discussing open metadata and open archiving policies with anybody interested! #MetaFutures
REMINDER: The US changes its clocks this weekend!! If you're scheduled to meet with a US-ian next week, check with them to confirm meeting times! www.timeanddate.com will help you coordinate!
For those that missed it - videos of all sessions at the @copim.bsky.social conference last week are now available on the Internet Archive.
Lots of enthusiasm and stimulating discussion around community-led publishing of #openaccessbooks ....

The use of impact factors in the evaluation of researchers has contributed to the distortion of scientific publishing practices and research practices, noted France's CNRS as it walked away from Web of Science, using $$$ saved to promote #OpenScience & #OpenData. www.cnrs.fr/en/update/cn...
Said much more articulately than I was able to manage! ...
Don't pose that question reluctantly! Pose it with vigour and force! Neither desire or willingness are static features. What the #copimconference showed me is that dial has moved on both - how do we keep it turning? what action(s) can we each take to turn it a little bit more? Scaling small actions!
Join Thoth, @rupertgatti.bsky.social (@openbookpublish.bsky.social) & @emmabooth.bsky.social (@uomlibrary.bsky.social) @cilipmdg.bsky.social #MetaFutures Conference. We'll present "Fixing the Leaky Pipeline: Metadata Challenges & Open Community Solutions for Open Access Books"π©π»βπ§π§π©π lnkd.in/eDDi2WGQ
A crowd of delegates, arranged in a rough semi circle, looking up at the camera, some cheering
Two delegates talking to each other during a coffee break, both smiling, other delegates in the background
Caroline Ball speaking, holding a lapel mic, with Fatimah Abduldayan, Martina Benz, and Sarah Thompson sitting alongside, with Martina looking up and back at a screen off camera
View from the back of a tiered lecture theatre, showing around 100 delegates seated in rows looking at a screen at the front, showing a remote delegate speaking, with four other speakers sitting below and to the left
1/ We did it.. the first ever Copim community conference ... done! Approx 250 people joining on and offline, over two days, with delegates representing every continent and 49 countries. Inevitably our discussions centred on the futures of #OAbooks...
So - the question is - what can we do, collectively, that would make it easier for you?
Have a look for support resources in Book 9 of #CopimCompass
Thanks to @jofitz.bsky.social @jordyfindanis.bsky.social @rupertgatti.bsky.social for creating and updating!

We're looking forward to attending the #CopimConference on Thurs & Fri -- say hello if you'll be there too! π
@rupertgatti.bsky.social & @alittleroad.bsky.social are part of the programme; Alessandra Tosi & other members of the team will be there in person. If you see us, say hi!
A question: Does anybody have any experience (or info they could point me to) extracting author affiliation information from the pdfs of books and/or articles, using AI or other automated processes?
This will aggregate open data & enable libraries to track usage among their academics. Itβll be designed to integrate with library software so librarians can easily ingest our journals metadata & content. Plenty more updates on this over the coming weeks. 2/2
Exciting day at @ojcollective.bsky.social in London! Our new Library Engagement Lead Tom Shaw met with @rupertgatti.bsky.social & I to plan the next 3-6 months of web dev. Weβll improve the OJC website & journals catalogue first. Then run a community consultation about the OJC Library Hub. 1/2

And so it begins... 3 UK universities (Essex, Sussex & Kent) have just gone public about walking away from their Elsevier Read & Publish deals, despite Jisc's recently announced agreement. Expect to see more of these over the coming months. www.timeshighereducation.com/news/three-m... #OpenAccess
Due to popular demand, we've increased our online capacity! π
Thanks to the open scholarship team at @bodleian.ox.ac.uk for inviting @copim.bsky.social to discuss the archiving and preservation of #OAbooks - we took the perspectives of a publisher, an author, and a repository manager.
