Better start planning next year's.
Better start planning next year's.
The CIA-backed coup against Prime Minister Mosaddegh which installed the Shah is also key for understanding why some Iranians invaded the U.S. embassy in 1979 (tragically taking the employees hostage). Many believed the prior coup was planned in the embassy and feared another would happen.
ββ¦disabled people are actually less likely to drive than nondisabled people and more likely to get around by walking and rolling and taking transit. Car-heavy cities are also disproportionately dangerous for disabled folksβ¦ββ @nondriver.bsky.social

Wrote up a synopsis of an in-depth MNDOT study that pretty much repeats back to us bike advocates exactly what we all know to be true.
And I am just wondering when institutions will finally start implementing their end of the bargain. Broad-scale protected & interconnected bike/ped infrastructure.
Hold the line.
Whichever of us removes their studded tires first is responsible for the blizzard in April.

MSP is defined by small cozy nice-to-haves that alongside the need-to-haves, bundled together, make for the best livability for the money of just about anywhere in America.
That's what we've been fighting for. And basic human decency. And love of our neighbors.
I finally carved out the time to write an article for @streets.mn
Hopefully one of many about how to connect communities, create resiliency, and build a path to a better America.
And you should write an article too. Send a pitch or draft to editor@streets.mn and we'll work to polish your idea!
I appreciate it! After over 2 years on the board, I finally got around to writing something for streets.mn.
And I hope other folks will write for us too!
As our managing editor Cirien said: The streets are our beat and are where everything has been happening this year.
No amount of regret can reunite families, save children from indefinite detention, or make our communities whole again.

At what point will regulators finally recognize that 'camera-only' self driving vehicles are a wildly failed experiment?
Please do! The Park Board's progressive shift is a worthwhile tale to tell.
How is there no traffic cone emoji?
As MN moves into road-construction season, we'll all be seeing street-safety opponents & flawed media coverage paint reconstruction as occurring bc of bike-lanes.
That's not how these projects happen. Read our latest to learn more & to arm yourselves with how to best talk about these topics! ‡οΈβ€΅οΈβ€΅οΈ
Some great context on this provided by @beacon.bsky.social's piece in @streets.mn a few years ago:

She is right β‘οΈ This can and should be replicated.

MN communities still need your support. Rent is due in a few days.

Days like this make me so thankful I get to ride on studded tires and don't have to drive.
Crazy to think that studded tires were illegal until just over a decade ago in MN.
Did you know that our streets could be safer just by placing traffic signals on the near side of an intersection?
Countries around the world with safer streets use this strategy. we should do it here too!
Iβve begun a new research project and now escape todayβs madness by rifling through pre-1914 cycling magazines. Iβll share stuff here and there on this thread, starting with β¦

Did you participate in one of the Alex Pretti Solidarity Rides in Minnesota on January 31st?
β‘οΈ If so, we'd love to know what the rides meant to you?

Local zoning is the way! A lot of these are being stopped or stalled by neighborhood organizing.
These warehouses often need to be purchased, permitted, approved for occupancy and specs. Each one of those steps can be interrupted.
Ppl are pressuring corps not to sell, counties to deny permits, etc
This is not a resilient system. This is not a future forward system. This is not even a system we can afford to support into the future.
It's a slightly above average strength winter storm and the entire system collapsed.
...But the light rail is running without issue.
Minnesota is so dang beautiful.

It's February. Please turn off the gales of November.
all the media being stenographers for the feds and just repeating the drawdown nonsense should go to the whipple building today so they can see the same amount of masked men leaving in convoys of vehicles, and whatever this is too, and report accurately whatβs happening on the ground in minnesota
The uncertainty of if it has ended or if it will ever end is an intentional part of the state terrorism and political violence of the Trump regime.
I know we are all exhausted, but we need to stay at this. We need to protect our neighbors and democracy.
