I'd be enthusiastic for a community-led takeover of the Forest of Bowland (Lancaster & Lancashire) - it should be the country's flagship rewilding / peat restoration project.

Dartmoor case set to decide future of wild camping Hikers can pitch a tent under the stars on the moor without permission, but for how much longer?

"Win or lose in the Supreme Court, we now want the government to step up and pass a right to roam act, to protect and extend public rights of access to nature across England.”

@lewis-winks.bsky.social ahead of this morning’s verdict on wild camping on Dartmoor:

Whenever you're feeling overwhelmed by it all, nature can always be relied on to provide profound hope, beauty, meaning, and joy.

If you're actively helping nature through rewilding, those benefits are right off the charts. 🌍

Surge in swimmers hospitalised from polluted UK waters Diseases such as dysentry and Weil’s disease have led to swimmers and surfers becoming seriously unwell

This is exactly why Surfers Against Sewage was formed over 30 years ago in the South West. How depressing is it nothing has changed and SAS is now a national organisation ?

Eye-opening graph. The biggest wildfire incidents in the UK don't occur when it's hottest, in high summer: they take place in April - *when landowners set fire to their grouse moors & lose control of burns.*

Time to ban moorland burning.

That's 95k!

We're 95% of the way to 100,000 signatures on our petition, which means we get a ban on driven grouse shooting debated in parliament.

Only 5k to go! Please share & sign: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70...

On the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, we thought we'd answer a question that's often asked,

"If they raised the Mary Rose, why not raise the Titanic?"

Allow our scaled diagram to explain...

The Observer view on SUVs: they are too dangerous and too big, their drivers should be made to pay If a car generates more potholes, takes up more space and poses more risk, it is only fair that its owner pays more

β€œIf a car generates more potholes in our roads, takes up more parking space and poses more danger to pedestrians, cyclists and other car occupants compared with smaller vehicles, then it is only fair that its owner pays more for driving that vehicle”

In the many rubbish things I lived through in 2024, my cat and dog both passed on. This weekend lovely, though damp with rain, tail-less but v handsome cat befriended me in the Groove Bar Shipley and I was happy to host

Agree πŸ’―
An experienced cyclist was recently killed just round the corner from me. Hit whilst cycling in a painted cycle lane (which says it all about the value of them). Absolutely devastating.

Oh crikey hope you’re ok. That’s frightening.
It’s really frustrating isn’t it. It does feel aggressive out there, plus the ones that just don’t look. I’m too anxious to deal with it

I did persevere cycling to work for a while, it’s not really that far. But the afternoon traffic was/is just too aggressive and I gave it up. potholes and detritus in the cycle lane (where there is one) didn’t help
