Since you've been reading Tolkien, you could try looking up InDeepGeek. They go into a lot of detail on LotR lore about stuff like how the Silmarillion is written from an elven perspective and whatever happened to the blue wizards and how it all fits with Tolkien's themes.

Yeah, mechanically 5e does feel restrictive and very video-gamey with regards to player characters, and it seems incredibly combat-focused, which bode very poorly for the ranger class. There's a lot I feel is lacking and as such I think a lot about how I'd go about building a system...
I always wanted to try D&D but never got to until 2020, well into 5th edition. I do wonder what 3rd/3.5th edition was like, since these days I usually see talk/videos about either 5.5 or like... 1st or 2nd edition.
I should probably look into that stuff for curiosity's sake...

Try restarting Discord. It seems to get stuck on certain games/apps and won't remove them from your current activity until you do. I've been taking a look at Stoat today and had the same thing happen, and it's happened to me with Cobblemon as well.
