i think a big part of everything is trying to free yourself from as many notions as possible about how you "should be" doing art and stuff like that, and just trying to focus on what would *please* you in your artistic approach. if that makes sense

sounds likely to me. i spend hours on end agonizing over anatomy because i have a lot of abstract theory in my head over how the body parts look and work together but transforming that knowledge into something visual is extremely difficult
