This artwork, inspired by the ancient Greek tragedy "Seven Against Thebes," features dynamic, abstract figures engaged in expressive, interconnected gestures with a serene blue and earthy color palette. Created by Aleksandra Ekster, a prominent avant-garde artist of the early 20th century, the piece showcases her innovative blend of Cubism and Futurism while capturing the drama and tension of the mythological narrative.

To me, the whole film is too focussed on the clinical perspective of Lydia with not enough emotion. I wanted to feel more. And for how academic the tone is, it didn’t convey to me how devastating these events were for everyone in Lydia’s life.

The frame is filled with tall, narrow, mostly bare trees reaching for the sky, which is a clear blue with only a few clouds. The image is taken from close to the trunks of the trees, aiming upward toward their highest banches.

In the center of the frame is a cluster of dark hydrangea florets, on hairy stems, which despite their size and prickly appearance are the actual reproductive organs of this plant. Like a bullseye in a target, the florets are surrounded by dried, lighter-colored petals. The bullseye analogy is a good one! The beautiful petals have do direct reproductive function; instead they attract pollinators to the much smaller florets, where the real business gets done.

This monochrome image show Dynjandi falls, the largest in the Westfjords of Iceland, cascading down several tiers of rock. Rough rock walls can be seen on either side of the falls, and a bright sky with a few clouds can be seen overhead. Partway up the falls, close to the center of the image, a person stands alone on an observation platform.

Two tabbies lie next to each other on a bed, looking very comfortable, as they should. The image focuses on the darker-furred camera hog Perry, who is fully in focus. The more demure, lighter-furred Rhubarb, who can't really be bothered to pay attention to us, is slightly out of focus. A blurred dresser with mirror and a door to another room appear in the background.
"The natural grace* and beauty of cats make us truly stunning to behold. You may now scratch us behind the ears," say Perry and Rhubarb.

*I'm sorry Rhubarb, but you're actually a loveable klutz. Though still stunning!
The full moon rises in the center of the image between the branches of a tree reaching out from the left. The sky is the deep blue of evening, and wispy clouds are visible in it here and there. At the bottom of the image are the distant hills of Vermont and New Hampshire.

This monochrome image shows the silhouette of a crow sitting among the bare branches of a tree. I like the moodiness, mystery and vague sense of menace crows can provide; but that probably means I've read too many fantasy novels!
The light and my lens wouldn't allow a detailed image of this #Crow, so I went for a moody silhouette instead. Norwich VT, February 2026

This made me cry. Please take a moment to read this story.
When people's understanding of disability begins & ends with covid, these spaces can further alienate those of us with complex pre-existing disabilities, even if unintentionally. There is work to be done.
