Federico Savini on Degrowth and Its Future But to the extent that economic growth and carbon-fuel usage are tightly linked – and not capable of being “decoupled” – some degrowth agenda is ultimately inescapable. The only question may be whether it will arrive via catastrophe or choice.

Global economy must stop pandering to ‘frivolous desires of ultra-rich’, says UN expert Olivier De Schutter says new economic agenda needed to tackle crises of rising inequality and ecological collapse

The #UN is beginning to say it out loud:

An economy designed to serve the ultra-rich is incompatible with planetary survival.

Climate crisis and inequality are the same problem.

The EU is betting on deregulation - here's why that won’t work If the EU wants to meet its economic and environmental goals, it needs to reject deregulation in favour of a bolder approach

Small rejoinder to the cohort of people who confidently tell you Ireland should turn to nuclear power.

After inventing solar and wind, it just doesn’t make economic sense, and it takes too long to implement.

Obvious. China’s emissions and pollution is not falling nearly fast enough to maintain a habitable Earth for humans.

So, as expected, the government cannot unilaterally remove the @dublinairport.bsky.social passenger cap.

Flawed economic models mean climate crisis could crash global economy, experts warn States and financial bodies using modelling that ignores shocks from extreme weather and climate tipping points

“Some are saying we’ll have a 10% GDP loss at between 3C and 4C degrees [of global heating], but the physical climate scientists are saying the economy and society will cease to function as we know it. That’s a big mismatch,” Abrams said www.theguardian.com/environment/...

The UK is a bizarre country where its seen as just fine & normal for people to sleep in tents in the freezing cold. Temperatures to hit -4 this week

But the idea Billionaires could be less rich. Not poor, not struggling, just a bit less rich, this is seen as extreme and radical

Abundance for the 99 Percent Abundance is the precondition of socialism, but socialism is also the precondition of abundance.

If you or I put a private sewer discharging waste into one of our rivers or lakes, there'd be total *hell* to pay.

But a whole industry doesn't just get away with constantly polluting, the government makes a priority of fighting for their right to continue.

The result is our rivers are dying.

“Simplification” sounds harmless - until you realise its a Trojan horse to weaken critical environmental laws that protect our air, water and Nature itself.

These laws protect you. Let’s protect them back.

The government presents its demand for a new nitrates derogation (pollution permit) in Brussels as a demand of the Irish public.
This counterpoint argues that it is actually being demanded by a subsection of the agriculture industry, and is in conflict with a genuine public interest: clean water
