So excited to be taking part in this wonderful conference! If youβre free please take the time to have a listen to some of the panels!
Today I visited MusΓ©e Lambinet and got thinking about ideas of beauty and sexuality tied to the popular early modern depiction of Venus in these statuettes. These are supposed to be white women but we can also find similar black Venus statuettes -which Iβm researching on!
So I think itβs time I introduce myself!
Iβm a third year PhD researcher at the EUI in Florence. My research looks at blackness, race, and gender in material culture in the early modern period, especially in Britain, France, and the Netherlands. Im also in the material and visual working group! π π
In Florence, pass by the Riccardiana library to see: Commodities and Environments: Florence and the Indo-Atlantic World, 1500-1800, curated by the CAPASIA project at the European University Institute 19/11/24 - 10/1/25
