That’s the (multi-)million dollar question. Would assume something needs to hit before start of new league year.

Taylor Decker's request for a release has been officially granted.
Lions picked up a comp pick at end of fifth round
I think that's over, doesn't feel like he'd post that if the door were open, imo, especially from him.
Larry Borom to Detroit, per NFL Network.
Started career high 11 games as right tackle last year. 26 year old is a Detroit native and Brother Rice alum.
throw in the requested release by Decker, another recent "good guy" winner, and there are going to be some new voices for that big-picture, come to me whenever type of stuff
from a pure reporter standpoint of going in that locker room every day in the season, Anzalone and Robertson are big losses as talkers and people to just run things by for more information/understanding.
Both former v deserving PFWA "good guy" media winners, so godspeed to both. Always available
tracker of stuff here
Anzalone to TB
Robertson to WAS
Cade Mays to DET (!) -- nice fit, fill a great need, perfect sweet spot of value signing on someone still young and growing after full move to center

A seventh-round pick who misses the entire season faces quite the uphill battle to even stick on the roster. He was going to bring more to special teams more than safety even if healthy, so tough to project anything more than special teams depth right now.
Love the new handle
hard not to think about these comments from Dan Campbell last week:
“Because as much as I love Deck, he’s got some things that are going to need some management … we’re going to need somebody that can play over there and that can help us …”
Actually closer to $12 million after looking at that closer. But closes that gap
Well, I think that speaks to the dissatisfaction I’m associating with him being “surprised“ by the $$$$ talks they had. He’s also been first himself on his own messaging so not surprised to see him as the source. I’m sure they’ll oblige, especially with him.
Yes. Believe it’ll be just south of $15M in savings for Decker alone. More work to do but it certainly moves the needle there.
That is what it’s sounding like — restructure talks and not being thrilled about it.
Surprising this wasn’t talked about more as a possibility earlier this offseason by the sounds of his post on IG.
Taylor Decker requests release from Lions, with more in instagram post:
Also thanks for mailbag podcast, we’re recording today at some point.

It's perfect timing to highlight the free-agent offerings at running back after the Lions shipped the disgruntled David Montgomery to Houston for picks and OL help.
someone asked me if I lost weight today
opening the mailbag for this week's podcast, seems like a good time as we sit between the combine and start of free agency for the Lions, with Montgomery and Glasgow already out.
please drop a line here or send one to dungeonofdoom@mlive.com. We'll make sure to answer it on this week's show.
Compensation update: The Texans are sending OL Juice Scruggs, a 4th-rounder and a 7th-rounder to Detroit for David Montgomery.

Holmes has had discussions with David Montgomery and his agent. Still fluid situation but they want the player if he wants to be here.
Holmes said Gibbs, Campbell, Branch and LaPorta are all core players they want.
