Shout out to @ivygrimes.bsky.social for a truly phenomenal piece of writing with The Cellar Below the Cellar, creating a soft Southern Gothic apocalypse digging its fingers into the raw, rich dirt of life.

submissions β€” neon hemlock

We have only 61 stories submitted for WHAT ELEGANT STARS so far. I suppose a lot of folks will submit in the last month, but that still seems low. Though the theme is more specific than some previous ones, so folks are less likely to have anything ready to go.

Went to my very first AWP offsite reading last night (thanks @hexliterary.bsky.social) expecting a quiet and somber affair, but all the readers read their pieces out loud and not silently to themselves like I was expecting. Would've been going to way more readings if I'd known it was like this.

This week on hex, Anyu Ching is keeping busy. In this surreal piece, our narrator does whatever they can, everything they can. Don't miss the sharply written "Getting By," up now !!

β€œThe Woman In White” by Russell Brakefield β€œI saw a woman in the road,” he said. β€œA woman in white robes. Sort of floating there.” He tried to describe the woman, but even as he talked, he realized he probably hadn’t seen a woman after all.
