A magnolia tree in full bloom. Each flower about 20 cm across.
Indoors, a display table with individual callia flowers of different kinds. They are competition entries.
Tall vases holding deep pink magnolia flowers with smaller ones holding a range of daffodils also seen.
Glorious spring flowers at RHS Rosemoor today.

What a place to tie the knot! Congratulations on your Silver Wedding. I hope you both have some celebrations planned, either with the family, or just the two of you. π

I think bats are so cool. We had them at my last house, but the chimney was struck by lightning & they all disappeared (it happened in June). When we renovated the cottage here in Devon, we allowed a slit for pipistrelles to use as and when. I like to think they manage the gnats for us. π

A proud mum moment for me. I'm used to seeing the words "Kings Bench Division" when searching for ancestors. But I've just viewed my daughter quietly working in a Kings Bench Division courtroom, on video footage of proceedings this week. π¦π(No, I'm not going to provide a citation for that π€£)

Photograph of an unidentified building
We have a mystery we hope someone can solve! π΅ Does this building look familiar to you? We believe it could be somewhere in North Berkshire or maybe even Oxfordshire. Let us know in the comments if you recognise it!

I saw this website this morning and have found it really easy to use, the information is so accessible. And guess what? I found an important lead in the quest to identify the parents of one of my 5Xg-grandmothers. Another exciting rabbit hole to explore although it may well result in a tale of woe.

Can I just say that I like nothing more, when researching old newspapers, finding my ancestors competing at quoits, winning prizes for their potatoes at the village show or even compering at local whist drives. Makes me glad to be who I am. π #genealogy #genhour #ancestry

The Black Deathβs counterintuitive effect: as human numbers fell, so did plant diversity
New study finds that plant biodiversity collapsed in landscapes where arable production was abandoned during and after the Black Death era.

Whereas I only took up genealogy after moving away from where many of my ancestors lived. There are Hearns in this area, but I haven't found any connection to my own Hearns, yet. But when the septic tank needs emptying, we do use Hearn Haulage! πAre you going to the Devon FHS 50th anniversary event?

Gool Peran Lowen, to you too, Jane! I like your flag. π Unlike my tiny but proud Welsh chunk of DNA, any Cornish-ness of mine is scientifically unproven and putative at best. But I do shop in Lidl and enjoy a Cornish cream tea....

I will listen as soon as I get the chance. My mother was in the ATS in WW2 and my parents wouldn't have met otherwise. They both married in army uniform.
